Yeah but that's assuming that your pacemaker can run your optimal splits and do it evenly. Many 1500's these days at that level ask for 1.50.5 - 1.51.00 through 800m and then 2.18.5 at 1000m. Well there are a handful of pacers that can do this - but can they do it 55.0-55.5-28.0? Because back in the day of say, an El G, it wasn't so much how you ran your split it was just that you hit it. So 1.50.5 more often than not was something like 54.3-56.2 and then holding on for dear life and hoping to just make it 1000m. That killed the ultimate potential of so many performances we have no idea.
So for me if I had to pick one or the other it's the lights every day of the week. It's not just the guys racing that are massively benefiting it's the pacers more than anyone.
