Charlie Murphy tells two stories about hanging out with Rick James – which also happen to be stories about beating up Rick James. (Contains strong language.)...
Wearing shoes inside is just like wearing sunglasses inside, there is no purpose being served. But at least sunglasses don’t track grime around the premises or scuff up the floors. If I went inside a house and everyone else was wearing sunglasses, I would still refrain from doing so indoors. Same with shoes. Can you explain, is it a safety issue, more comfortable for you to have shoes on, or something else? I’m genuinely curious what would induce someone to wear shoes inside a house.
This topic really amazes me. Why do I wear shoes inside a house? It's what I've always done, what my parents and grandparents did, what everyone I've ever known does. It would never have occurred to me to not wear shoes in a house. Yes, it is more comfortable for me to wear shoes and I don't need to bother with taking them on and off if I leave the house. But honestly, and this why I keep looking at this thread, this is the first time I've ever heard of people who don't.
Exact opposite, having grown up all my life not wearing footwear at home. Not wearing anything is the most relaxed state to be, so I just don’t get why one would want to be shod at home. It’s like being shod on a nice clean beach for me. Why would you? Free feet are happy feet, and the floors stay a lot cleaner.
Wearing shoes to bed is not comfortable. I'm not walking around when I'm in bed. I do walk around the house when awake and wearing shoes is more comfortable. But if I had grown up and still lived in a world where people wear shoes to bed I probably would do it.
I'm not going to ask you if you want me to do something that I think is weird and that no one I've ever known does. You'll need to ask and if you do I most likely will take off my shoes.
Actually turns out to be seven countries where I've been in homes and maybe fourteen more where I haven't. Mexico is not on the list. I have been in people's homes in Hawaii, but Hawaii as a country? How did you come up with that? And how does the UK count as "the other three?"
Have you ever been asked to take your shoes off in Hawaii? That was the custom at every home I visited there. (All of them are homes of Asian families. But all the non-Asian guests took their shoes off without being asked.)

I always wear shoes at beaches, clean or otherwise.
Do you at least mean flip flops or just shoes shoes like sneakers or boat shoes? If you go near the water, they’ll get wet and the dry sand will then stick to the wet shoes and annoy your feet with friction. Walking on sand barefoot is so relaxing, wet or dry.

I know one couple that broke up because the guy didn’t like taking of his shoes and his girlfriend required it?
I just use the men's room in a restaurant and there was like a centimeter of urine on the floor under the urinal. Yuck.
You are telling me that when I got home tonight, I should have left those same shoes on and walked around inside my house? Are you insane?
I took them off at the door and put on a pair of super comfy Birkenstock sandals (slides) and let my feet relax/breath. I didn't have to take my socks off and I certainly didn't have to track filth all around my house.
Are you the same guy who started the "Do I really have to wash my hands after going to the bathroom?" thread? You sound like the same person.
Can we at least agree that anyone who keeps a dog in the house but makes people take off their shoes is missing the point?
There was probably a time when dogs were generally not allowed indoors.
In the old America, when people were mostly rural and their house would have a big yard with chickens and goats, and horses tied up somewhere. Their dog would live out there too, and maybe be allowed on the porch.
There would be turds everywhere from all the livestock, so the people's boots and anything else that might step in the turds would stay outside.
There was also none of this fancy air conditioning, so much of the year they'd stay out on the breezy porch.
