This post proves that Airplane wasn't satire - it was prescient. Some of the people posting on this thread are the equivalent of the Point/Counterpoint guy who says, 'They bought their tickets...they knew what they were getting into - I say - LET 'EM CRASH!'. The people on this sub were engaging in high-risk, reckless behavior, but for God's sake, these are human beings with families who even now, aren't sure if their loved ones are dead or alive with dwindling oxygen. Maybe - just maybe - the time to make jokes about their impending and tragic demise should follow the adage that comedy = tragedy + time. I've got a dark sense of humor, too, but man, there's a time and place for it.

But the equation comedy = tragedy + time doesn’t even match units; plus the ‘time’ component is Schrödingerous as the tragedy hasn’t yet happened for sure.

The more I gather about the situation, the less likely I think there is any chance of a successful rescue (although I hope I'm wrong). It seems unlikely they ever find this thing again.

They are toast. The rescue plan is theatre, just to show people they did “all they could.”
Look up any stories from people who work on cruise ships. If someone jumps or falls off they are as good as dead most of the time, and that’s somebody at the surface, perhaps even with a life preserver. People forget how massive the ocean really is, and it doesn’t take much for people to be hidden behind waves.
