I don't think this will work because it won't be interpreted as sincere trans identification. Supporters will simply dismiss this as hateful rightwing behavior. You're up against a hermetically sealed worldview that ignores its own contradictions and dismisses all outside criticisms. In fact, even insiders who criticize the logic will be dismissed as people who have succumbed to hateful rhetoric.

This may have to be settled via lawsuits and/or financial threats. A major malpractice insurance provider in Australia recently announced that they will not indemnify physicians who give puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery referrals for minors outside of speciality clinics. For sports, women and girls may have to file claims based on sex discrimination and Title IX violations. Like many women's rights advocates before them, these women and girls will be called immoral, hateful, and crazy. It's sad that we have to revisit this stuff in 2023, but that's the reality we're confronting.

There is a world of difference between acknowledging gender atypicality in children, or even tolerating/accepting adults who decide to live as if they are members of the other sex, and insisting that these gender atypical people are literally members of the other sex. This is also leaving aside the fact that a non-negligible proportion of males who identify as women are acting out a sexual fantasy (autogynephilia) while others are predators exploiting a Grand Canyon-size loophole in the law and social norms.

People who are hellbent on forcing others to say or believe something patently false are inherently dangerous, whether they know it or not.

I imagine some of them are interested in defending truth.

I am a liberal, I care about bodily autonomy (in all things from gender affirming care to reproductive rights), making sure our kids learn actual history good, bad and ugly, not a watered down version of it, climate change is real and things need to be done about it, and I would like to not be shot at a grocery store and a school because our gun laws were too lax.

But I also think that trans women playing sports with cis women is wildly unfair.

No one is going to align completely with your values but you have to prioritize and make compromises.

If my daughter was racing this weekend, chances are I'd have mated with a Demi god because she'd be running sub 5 (!!!!) and my genes would need some help getting there. But if she was, I would be concerned and believe it was unfair. But I wouldn't change the way I vote for this and this alone. Because I'd also care about her rights to choice, her right to breathe clean air, and not get shot in school and all that stuff.

She'd probably be well on her way to a college scholarship anyways.

Then maybe people can see what a joke this is. This weekend one of the most gifted young runners in America ever is towing the line in the state final. She is a thrill to watch but she's hardly mentioned. Instead it's all Athena Ryan and Lorelei Barrett, two Trans identifying males stealing the attention. This is what women and girls are losing.

I wish we could be excited about Sadie Engelhardt instead.

Sadie has a far better stride than either of the transgender runners. Even with the advantage of having a male body, I don’t see them beating her.
