I really enjoy the women's game. A superstar like Caitlin Clark really makes for great entertainment but even without her the game at the top level is improving and talent is deeper.
Yes, quality male high school teams are physically stronger and quicker and play a different, and vertical game.
I don't think this fact detracts from the women's game, which while different is exciting in its own right. I so enjoyed Caitlin Clark this year. It takes confidence and guts to even take 30 foot shots much less make them. Kudos to the Iowa coach for letting her utilize her unique skills . I realized her impact when I saw a very good 12 year old boy in the neighborhood attempting to imitate her shooting style. Women's sports mean a lot to me because my father, brother and me all attended school on athletic scholarships, but my mother, the best athlete in the family had very little opportunity in the late 50's to participate. Whether it was free throws, golf (she shot in the 70's), throwing a football - you name it - at 5ft 1 she could do it all.
I feel much the same way about D1 women"s lacrosse, but have a quibble with the rule differences. These athletic women could easily manage the men's game faceoffs, could handle the physical play permitted with the men, and would improve their team defense with long stick defensive players. But still a great sport to watch - a neighbor just signed with a major D1 program, is a great student at a public high school (not a prep school) and will have a great opportunity to play a physically demanding team game.
