Exactly. Conference championship meets are about team points. Having Chmiel in the 5000m was smart. Plus Chapman's injury happened the first day of competition.

That is the question. Same for Stanford (if they qualify). In Gregory's case I think the answer is no, it's her final season and she probably wants to run in an individual event. But, if she can squeeze out a 3k qualifier this weekend maybe she does dmr/3k.
I don't see WA keeping all their athletes out if individual events, but particularly Thomas she is #7 in 800 and can likely make the final. For O'Sullivan maybe they have her run dmr only so she can drop another blazing 3:15. She is on the bubble right now for mile anyways.

Have any of you run D1? I did. It wasn't my choice which events I ran at the conference meet. I wanted to run the mile one year because I was top 8 in the ACC but my coach put me in 3000/5000.
It might have given Tuohy and team a fighting chance for the win. There might have been some uncertainty about Seymour pulling out the 5,000 and that is what Henes values the most, based on her past. In retrospect Chmiel could have likely done a 3:21 1200, giving a solid team around the iffy 400 sub. The DMR just wasn’t meant to be, yet we got to see a very heroic ‘Prefontaine-like’ gutsy performance from Tuohy.
I also believe that Tuohy is maybe 12 months away from pulling out a 4:20 and giving her a shot at a 3:59, putting her in the position of a top US 1500 performer internationally, though perhaps, still short of overtaking the Afrikans in that specialty. Her sweet spot may still be the 3K, where she has a way to go to get to a 8:20 world-class performance level. Meanwhile, she can still focus at going sub 15:00 for 5K this year. She may get to a Monson level only after turning pro, IMO.
I'm not sure how much faster than 3:24 Chmiel could do. Duke ran a huge faster time for them. With Chapmand Henes must have thought it was NC St and ND - and the 3 seconds on the 400 they lost would have beaten ND. But Duke ran really great. This is the consequence of NCSt neglecting the 400/800 spots in favor of being top-heavy in the 5,000. The program may not be as balanced, nationally, but the DMR performance shows that even in the ACC’s the XC/5,000 strategy has consequences. Henes is a great distance coach but to excel in mid-distance and the pentathlon requires a different approach. Sam Bush may have been able to develop more in the 800, if she wasn’t asked to fulfill the program’s XC strategy. I believe she’s a great talent but might have been a better miler/800 fit. What happened to Starliper is a small tragedy. Her body, apparently, couldn’t hold up to the demands of heavy mileage required for XC at the college level. Chmiel is a strong 5K/10K talent and she’s developed a good kick for those distances. We’ll never know if she could have done a sub-3:24 1200. She, like Tuohy, enjoys being a team player and possibly could have proven it in th DMR, if asked.
Tuohy is a generational talent and I hope she gets back to breaking 3K and 5K records before finishing her college career.
Thanks for showing the race FastTuohy and semihaze!
NOTE: Did anyone else notice how impressive it was that Markezich getting passed by Tuohy did NOT give up and instead surged at the right point when she sensed Tuohy was gassed and passed her? I know Markezich’s time still wasn’t fantastic, but she DID show some tenacity and good closing speed. She could have easily have just shut down. I imagine that meant a lot to her to have “beaten” Tuohy.
If Katelyn had Markezich's teammates and Markezich had Katelyn's teammates then Katelyn would have lapped her. Not even kidding, Tuohy absolutely could.

you should explain that to me instead.. coz i have been complaining for so months now why majority of the track fans are old.. even in letsrun, age demography is 50% over 60 year old
it absolutely explains why its so toxic in here but at least on youtube they are less toxic there
