There was nothing accidental about this. The loser kept looking over his shoulder in the final stretch and was trying to block the path of the other guy.

I don't see anything in the video suggesting he helped him. He did approach him, maybe he gave him a "good job" slap, or maybe it was a "you're a dick" slap, but we can't tell. We also can't tell what, if anything, he said. He certainly didn't physically help him.

The victim reached out with his left hand to help the attacker up and patted him on the back with his right hand. An official was helping the guy up at the same time.

Just noticed the lady's shoe came off in the incident. I watched it a couple dozen times frame by frame and am downgrading my initial verdict from battery to reckless behavior resulting in injury. As flagrant as the hip check was, it does look possible that it was for balance. There is a clear point just before his leg gave way that he began to lean HARD. As much as I want to somehow ban him from running anywhere ever, a DQ and ban from the event seems reasonable. On the other hand, when he stopped his watch....
