One girl wins by over 2 mins completely skews the average and how close the finishers PLACE actually were. It doesn't matter if you win an XC race by 5 min or 5 seconds, first place is still only 1 pt.
Time is the most telling statistic we have, it is not misleading.
If someone wins by two minutes, that should be recognized, not dismissed. I think time is the best tiebreaker, because every runner has an equal chance to affect it, not all the pressure goes to the fourth and fifth runner.
