So why wouldn't he use drugs like everyone else in body building does, when it's easier, faster - and legal?
The same reasons I never have and countless other people who have put in the hard work haven't. For me personally I would never want to put that kind of crap into my body which yes might give you short term quick results but longer term can have all sorts of negative effects on the body. I would much prefer to make all my gains naturally and remain healthy long term.
Yes. 56 years old, last Sunday did 3.5 plates for reps, at 178 lbs...while some guys I knew who used are already dead, and all are broken-down.
There is a price for everything that is forced upon the body from without. If it comes from within, it's all good.
Putting on quality muscle isn't as easy as losing body fat. Being skinny and new to weights, there are a lot of beginner gains to be had. There will always be that doubt if you're natural if you look a certain way.

You make accusations with no facts. Have you done any reading on Ryan Hall at all? He is no narcissist. He also admits that his doctor gave him testosterone in order to beat low t. Read up on him before judging.
The same people who say Hall is natural also say Nick Bare is natural.
Hall already admits to being on TRT.
Low T is a dubious diagnosis. Stop running 100+ miles a week and eat right and watch your T go back up...or ya know just get T prescribed by a doc *shrug*.

So you might not know this but Ryan was an elite marathon runner and running 100mile+ per week is pretty standard for this type of athlete. Again you keep making assumptions. Do you know for a fact that when Ryan stopped competitive running he went onto TRT therapy straight away or have you just assumed this? He may well have tried to fix his diet amongst various other things first. Also just out of interest have you ever dedicated several years of your life to seriously training in the gym 5-6 days per week on a structured, progressive program geared towards muscle and strength gains all while eating a high protein diet in a calorie surplus? Very easy to make accusations and judge someone when you haven't attempted what you're criticising.

Oh you poor helpless snowflake. It's been quite documented by Hall himself.
And thousands of runners run 100-200 mpw. We know what a skinny runner bod looks like and don't have this issue. People don't just grow muscle like that in their mid-late 30s
He's free to do whatever he wants but don't be so naive.

If you've read any of my previous posts I have done just that myself, completely naturally I might add and as a personal trainer I have helped multiple people do the exact same thing. What's your background in strength training may I ask?

The issue isn't that he's 5'10" 190ish lbs and knows how to take a good photo. He is not that big and his physique is achievable by many.
The issue is that he was a 127lb genetically gifted runner who took TRT (says so himself) and achieved those results.
Elite runners don't have the genetics to gain that amount of size or strength.....without 'help'.
Ryan Hall admitted to take TRT, and really when it is prescribed by his doctor and it isn't illegal it is not wrong. All I was saying is he is not a narcissist. I have read his book, and he is a courageous person that has gone through many trials and worked through them. Calling him a narcissist is baseless.

The guy is shirtless flexing all over the internet. lol!

Is there a reference to support the broad claim of elite runners having a substantially lower genetic muscle potential?
5’10”/190 isn’t exactly that high in the strength world. If you go by the buffoon Rip, he thinks a grown man should be at least 200 lbs (though most of his cult members are probably fattier than Hall).
Has he? If so, then hmmmm. Tons of mileage will of course decrease your T, when did he start TRT? Do your endogenous T levels return to normal once you back off the mileage?
If he doesn’t actually need the T to compensate for some debilitating deficiency, then he’s a loser douche—and given his appearance, I would guess that he has more than he needs.
What a world. Situations and issues like this are why I don’t go to masters track meets. I find it disturbing, and creepy. I often have an aggressive response to these things.

While you offer no proof of your suggestion, it would mean—accurately—that I never had the potential to be an elite distance runner (eg. 2:10 marathon), but did have the genetics to get to 5-10/195.
I would agree with that.
BUT you don’t know that he had the “genetics” to become either an elite distance runner, or to be a ripped 5-10/190; he could have “supplemented” his way to both achievements.
Did Ryan Hall at any time admit to taking steroids? I’m just asking because I never saw that mentioned. In addition we all know that he’s a God-fearing evangelical Christian with his wife and so taking steroids would be bizarre for someone in that position, or am I thinking naïvely? With regard to his legs they look good but it is true that they do not really look very proportional to his overall body size because looking at his legs they look to be about the same size as his arms which is unusual.
You are beyond naive if you think God fearing evangelicals wouldn't do steroids . Time and time again we here so-so wouldn't do drugs because of x and it turns out nope those people do drugs.
I have no clue if Hall is doping but I can assure you plenty of christians dope.
Yes doping is far more rampant among overtly religious athletes than non overtly religious athletes. Easily explained by the fact that they displace their responsibilities to their particular deity.

This is interesting but can you provide some sources for your theory? thank you.

Your genetics argument has no foundation.
Exactly. The other thing to point out here is Ryan's weight when he was an elite marathoner would have been well below his actual natural weight of equilibrium had he not been running 100+miles per week. For his height and frame I would expect his natural baseline weight to be somewhere around 150-160lbs, without any weight training whatsoever. If you look at him in some of his marathon photos he's basically emaciated.
