1) and 2) is what you put out there just because you dislike the guy. I haven't watched that video, but I think it's improbable that anyone would just trip and completely make up a story like that.
You should really watch the video before trying to defend him. If you watch the video, you’ll see what most of us can see: he’s a fraud.
Why would you think he's lying when he talks about the oddball encounter that was eventful?

Fair enough, most of us are biased when it comes to the narcissist known as DK. Maybe we are blind to our bias because of the innumerable times this blowhard exaggerated or over-promoted his accomplishments in the past.
Maybe this time it's not him, it's us...

Definitely possible to have rogue moose which are different than normal moose. Happens in Alaska occasionally.
Whatever. I'm not here to defend that guy, I'm here because I freaking hate urbanized coyotes and I think the problem is getting worse. The first time it was one coyote who followed me, the last time it was two. It was really not cool. You may think you can take down a coyote, but can you take out two? I think any coyote in any urban area should be put down immediately. They are far from endangered and are pretty much an invasive species. They are smart as hell and are adapting to not fear humans at all and we need to teach them to fear humans.
If your plan is to try and exterminate urbanized coyotes, you have not meaningfully engaged with the issue. For all I know, you may just be an expert on documented coyote attacks, but I would think someone who is that obsessed would also have educated themselves about potential solutions. Extermination attempts create more coyotes. Think of them like more dangerous raccoons, because that's what they are: wandering all through cities day and night, eating small rodents, bugs, and whatever they can scavenge, mostly out of view of people but sometimes spotted. Don't contribute to the problem by leaving food out for any animals really, because chances are coyotes will end up being the ones eating it. There, now you can feel like you're doing something to guard against your irrational fear.

I think dean is currently dealing with the downside of living the overexposed blowhard life: he comes up and says he was attacked by a coyote, and most people that know him don't believe him. Congrats Dean, you found a way to make money off a thing you do, but you lost a lot of the respect you might have garnered if you didn't try to monetize your ordinary existence.
If people en masse are reacting to you in a way you think is unfair, maybe stop and think about how you got there. It might not be fair, but there's a good reason you can understand.

Yes, I do think I could take down two coyotes. Also, urbanized coyotes are great and ~75% of their diet is rats/mice.
I've seen coyotes both in the city and on the trails and they've followed me on a few occassions, but never any issues and zero reports of any attacks with the exception being people walking their small dogs. I once ran into a pack of 7+ coyotes in the woods, and that was the only time I was mildly concerned, but they quickly scattered. I'm sure I could not take down 7 coyotes.
They are terrible. In Vancouver, where the poster above is from, they run up to kids playing and bite them, unprovoked. People playing disc golf have been jumped, which might seem fairbecause disc golf, but in actuality its a problem for our parks.
The City should kill them on sight. We can manage rats without coyotes, which obviously aren't in most of the areas of town and definitely not downtown.

He put us through a fact-checking hell that led to the expunging of a great many blatant and devious falsehoods. If you've read the book in its sanitized form and come away with the uneasy feeling that you've been bamboozled, imagine what the original manuscript was like! As many here and elsewhere have discovered or deduced throughout Karnazes' disgraceful career, absolutely nothing he says can be trusted; if it makes him look tough or charismatic or otherwise newsworthy, it's almost certainly untrue.
He claims the coyote was not going after him but his energy bar. His website says he is sponsored by Hammer Nutrition so he must have been eating a Hammer Bar. Now known as the energy bar coyotes will attack you to eat.
Coyotes are 90% carnivorous so it must have been some type of meat bar, but Hammer do not list meat as a bar flavor. Maybe he was testing a prototype meat flavor bar?
I believe its extremely unlikely a coyote would risk so much in attacking a large potentially dangerous human just for a relatively small peanut flavored bar.
