Looks like a week from now Newbury Park will be sitting out Lex and Leo, and they will be running their top 3 JV guys with Dev/Aaron/Aaron/Brayden.
So based on the results, that would be Schohn, Dickran, and Jonah Sloan.
Kinda sad that Porter was far from making that group. But he will probably race with them at Woodbridge and maybe beat all those guys if healthy.Big day for:
Schohn. Junior. He was a mid pack JV runner last year. But top JV finisher last race. If he ends up making the nationals team that would be insane.
Dickran. Freshman. He had better 8th grade 1600 times than Lex and Leo. Gonna be interesting to see what he can do while running with the varsity guys.
Jonah Sloan. Junior. He sure won’t wanna miss out on what his younger brother will achieve. Make the top 7 for Newbury Park by the time he graduates.00 -

With improvement and no injuries (L.Soobrian was injured first half of season last year) they are going to be very competitive come the Saturday after Thanksgiving at Woodward Park.
Los Altos made a very nice debut at the Lowell Invitational. 35 second spread between #1 and #5. Next best team time was 1:59 behind.
Also Thomsen, the defending state 3200m champion 10:06 is impressive. She ran 42 second faster the L. Soobrian. It was a different race but I don’t believe the results would be any different if they were in the same race. And I’m a big L. Soobrian fan.

Rosemead Invite was short and if seen through that light roughly 20-30 seconds should be added to each runner. Reason I'm bringing this up is because I think Loyola is finally fading away and might not even make state this year. On a bright note at a verified 3 mile course at the South Bay Twilight, Redondo (D1) and West Torrance (D3) had very strong showings while not being ranked at all in Redondo's case (, they had team averages respectively of 15:29 and 15:26).00

I stand corrected, they were ranked but I think especially for West Torrance not as highly as they will finish this season.

I was surprised to not see Clovis in these rankings. Looking at track times and the fact that they have a top 10 guy in the nation, it’s not that hard to conclude that they belong in these rankings.
And Madera South finished 13th last year in d1 and brought 5 guys back.
Jesuit CA brought back a lot of guys and finished 5th in d1. Idk if they should be there yet but they are starting to seem to be putting things together. I think they are always underrated coming into the season and at the end they end up surprising people.00 -
It seems like pretty much all of the top CA teams will be running at Woodbridge except for Newbury Park’s scorers. Gonna be interesting how everything shakes out.

Speaking of Loyola…I wouldn’t underestimate them yet.
Bennett ran a 9:48 in track and was their #2 guy in the previous meet. He was off at this meet, finishing as their 4th guy. Far from their third. They were also missing Corboy who ran a 9:50 in track. It’s only the beginning of the season so they might put everything together at the end of the season.San Clemente was missing a 9:47 guy from this meet. He isn’t entered at Woodbridge either.

Whitney has the second fastest group of 3 mile times (faster than great oak’s minus the better Cortes) according to milesplit. Was the Monterey bay Course fast?
They only got 16th last year in d2 and got rid of their top guy

For got to mention in my previous post Los Altos destroyed Granite Bay by almost 4 minutes in team time and Granite Bay is ranked number 5 in California pre season rankings. Los Atos has a chance to go to NXN. Especially since both Soobrian sisters have just gotten over COVID.

Not sure beating Granite Bay is a good indicator. GB wasn’t good in their first meet either.

It’s not that Granite Bay isn’t good. It’s that Los Altos is much better than the rankers predicted. Plus Soph Soobrian has really improved. If she continues her improvement she will be the one making the difference if Los Altos makes it to NXN.

I don’t think the rankers predicted Soph Soobrian would improve so much. Neither did I. 2021 results for her were 18:28 at Lowell Invitational. This year’s race, and I believe same course as there was no mention of a course change, 16:10. That is a huge improvement that no one saw coming. I’ve mentioned before she went from a 5:30’s 1600 runner at the beginning of the spring to 5:05 at the end of track. That is very good improvement. But I didn’t expect here to be within 15 seconds of her big sister in any race this year.
How many places does a runner eliminate when they improve by over 2 minutes from one year to the next on a cross country course?

looks like the SR difference between Cantu and the guy below him is only 6 points. I have a feeling that this 6-7 gap will close at nationals00
