World Athletics actually did a survey of the favorite track and field events of people in a variety of markets around the world, and the results were: 100m, long jump, high jump, pole vault, 200m, 400m. So there you have it, not a single distance race in the top 6 events. World Athletics has been using these results to cut down the schedule at most Diamond League meetings which is why the longest race at many of these meets is now the 1500 or the mile.

I'm biased but I don't see the harm in having some jumps and throws going on in the infield while those races are going on. You could bust the whole meet out in an hour and half (;

I totally agree have all the field events as usual what we don't want is and around and around and around and around they go.

The pace difference from 3000m to 5000m to 10000m is so slight, there is no need for 5000m & 10000m. Three-thousand meters, in theory is short enough that arrangements can be made to show 3000m on television without commercial breaks. Except for dead enders on this site, 5000m & 10000m are awful television except for last 900m. Great thing about 3000m, after about two and 1/2 to 3 minutes for the men, last 900m. After about 3 1/2 minutes for the women, last 900m. The drama build up to women 3000m, 1984 Olympics was very exciting.

You just proved my point. Those are called inane things like world's fastest man because it is exactly the lingo they use at circuses. 100 is just a circus side show. There's people that watch for morbid curiosity but that's it. Most participants are looked down upon like the hairy lady
