I'm 48, have a Sophomore girl on a nationally ranked team, and I'm a big fan of the sport. It would actually be weird if I wasn't talking about high school runners.

I think context here is key. This is an amateur sport in which many of the elders took part in as well. It just so happens that most of the spectators come from the lower rungs of the sport - MS, HS, college -- and those lower rungs at times get more attention than the pros.
So it's not far fetched that a 1978 state champion picks up the scoreboard section and has a stance on what the results mean.
I'm a 56 year old with more than 40 years of experience in this sport as an athlete, coach, fan, parent and journalist. I've seen meets/races in 'real time' that people who weren't alive when they happened talk about every day. Me being here is as logical as anyone. If you think it's weird, that's on you.

Is it weird that we have 50 year olds on here taking about high school runners?" The really weird thing, is the fact that somebody thinks that it's weird! For example, if some 50 year old classical music fan were to talk about a high school age violin prodigy, would that be weird? Or should he wait until she gets to 18? or 21? or 25?

Right then, what are the age rules. We need to clarify this. We need a clear definition in which we can adhere to with no confusion.
- No one over the age of 23 may speak about anyone under the age of 18.
- No one under the 18 of may speak of anyone over the age of 30.
- No one over the age of 30 may speak of anyone over the age of 70.
- No one over the age of 60 may speak of anyone under the age of 30 or over the age of 80.
- No one over the age of 80 may speak of anyone under the age of 18 and over the age of 18.
What else? I don't think this rule set is complete yet. This is more complicated than I thought it would be.

Everybody can only judge people +/- 25% of your current age.
If you are 20 you can judge people from 15-25.
If you are 40 you can judge people from 30-50.
If you are 60 you can judge people from 45-75.
