Track Athletes have less than a decade, on average, do participate in their sport and make some money.
To give someone a four year ban is devastating. Especially in a case like this.
This is one of the many things that suck about T&F. Take a great promising athlete and destroy their life over this BS.
This is the same sport that Takes SAFESPORT seriously. Another authoritarian useless organization.
1.) The point IS to be devastating to disincentive cheating. Make is hurt so much people won't do it, especially since it's so hard to catch those who violate the rules. If you are going to try and rob other athletes of glory and prize money, you need to be removed from the sport. It's no secret doping could result in a 4 year ban, so if you decide to do the crime, you do the time, and you have no one to blame but you.
2.) "Take a promising athlete and destroy their life over this BS." This presumes her career success wasn't do to the drugs, which is a highly dubious assumption taking into consideration her current status in the sport. But it might be enlightening to ask Alysia Montaño what it means to have a career "destroyed over this BS" and maybe you'll see things differently.
3.) What makes "a case like this" any different from other high profile busts, like Gatlin, Gay, Kiprop, Jacobs, Jebet, Ramzi, Sumgong, etc? I'm seriously asking because I keep hearing this and I don't see why it is. At least Gay owned up to it and apologized, so he has some respect at least.
I think before we even listen to her nonsense, I'd like to see her eat a burrito of pig organs. I guarantee she won't be able to down 1 bite. Organ meat of any mammal is the most disgusting tasting substance ever. They should double her sentence for coming up with the most idiotic, implausible excuse ever concocted.
I think it is disgraceful that Shelby used a 16 year old kid to bring up such sensitive topics.
The kid is absolutely appropriate for hype pieces and fun interviews. But discussing things like suicide, mental health, technicalities of the case and character? I found it really weird.
No wonder the kid posted about deserving and demanding respect. He's clearly too immature for such an interview.
That's not a criticism, he did a good job given the circumstances, but, I find it appalling he was put in this position- and Shelby/Jerry/Shalene or whoever agreed that this was an appropriate environment to share this story, should ashamed of themselves.
Exactly. I'm shocked that the first person that Shelby talked so openly to was a 16 year old student. Are you kidding me
The interviewer is 16? I knew he was young but 16? She did give a short interview last summer from the Drake Relays announcer and his son (who is a coach or administrator from near home town, so a very friendly team). That is as disingenuous as Jerry saying he never heard of nandrolone.
Burrito jokes aside I do have some empathy for her and wish this all had not come to pass. But she did test positive and did get due process according to the rules and procedures.
Four years is a long ban, and what was with the 3 year "plea bargain" I thought first offense was 2 years. In that case she'd be competing by next January. Why 3?
Okay it's just embarrassing that after a year of silence Shelby decided to tell her story to a 16-year-old's podcast. Like seriously... was the "Ali on Run Show" going to be too hard hitting?
Frankly I think she should have gone on LRC Track Talk... although I do understand why she wouldn't want to listened to RoJo's birdbrained schemes
Exactly , Shelby would be pouring her heart out about her lost career , and rojo would want to talk about his burrito tshirts .
“They have told me they support and believe me, but I’m no longer being financially supported by [Nike]. I’ve been paying for everything myself. Luckily, I’ve had a lot of help with that, so that’s been nice. But what I’m doing is definitely not sustainable. Now that I have the answer on the appeal, it’s time for me to move forward and start job searching, figuring out what I want to do and trying to figure out how to make an income over the next two and a half years.”
I knew this would inevitably make its way on here so I would like to say a few things.
1) You may disagree or not believe in Shelby, but I sincerely ask you to listen to this episode. You will benefit greatly from hearing Shelby’s vulnerability, heart, and openness in sharing her story. We could be here endlessly debating all the different facts of the case, evidence on both sides, and much more. But that’s not what we’re here to do. All we’re here to do is give Shelby an opportunity to share her heart, give her side of the story in full, and give her the opportunity to answer every misconception about the situation.
2) Shelby has never spoken publicly in a long-form manner since her ban. She speaks on many news things that aren't publically known and addresses all of the misconceptions that you all wrongly speculate on here all the time.
3) Please listen to this with an open mind and not your predisposed mindset. If you want to speak on the podcast AFTER you listen to it, that's fine, but don't assume to know what she said without listening to it. 4) Lastly, Shelby and I both deserve respect. Whether you agree with Shelby or not, these are very sensitive and life-altering subjects. I demand that you show the utmost respect in any comment sections about this episode whether you agree with her or not. Every human being has dignity and should be treated with such.
I hope you will all give Shelby a chance. If you would like more info you can go to
I think you're the one with the pre-disposed mindset. All you have to do is say "give a listen" and stop making assumptions about everyone. It is not about agreeing or disagreeing here. Like you said every human being has dignity and should be treated as such...which also means the integrity of the testing individuals and Shelby's competitors. How dare you assume I will benefit greatly! I guess you're God. I listened. I believe she cheated and the outcome and the consequences suits Shelby. That's it. Have a nice day.
I always felt she was guilty of something, likely using the burrito as a cover for a more likely contaminated substance that itself may have been in the grey zone.
Many people think she’s a nandro doper with intention. Asking out of ignorance, but what’s the response her main argument that a) her tests have shown it wasn’t chronic and b) it was ingested (not injected)?
And then, if it were ingested knowingly, she could have just missed the test once with no consequence. Which again I think points to a contaminated supplement she doesn’t want to reveal.
What is the best rebuttal to this? That it was in fact intentional and not an accident.
I have been on the fence concerning her guilt but having had the chance to watch this and read a bit more about the evidence, I wholeheartedly support her now and can't believe how much trash she has had to endure over the last year. Almost like you fools want to hang her without her due process. She is innocent and now let her have her peace!
I don't understand why you can be sure she is innocent. The stuff was in her system, and not just a trace amount. And the story on which she predicated her defense was implausible.

Yes, it's possible that she was taking another banned drug that she didn't test positive for, that accidentally contained nandrolone.
But she obviously couldn't use that as a defense. That's where the burrito story came in.
One of her last Instagram posts (16 weeks ago) said the below. What are the odds the drug was mixed up in her tinctures or gummies? Sounds more reasonable than a burrito.
