If those are accurate, no way was that last 50 ordinary--but like Flo'da, I think his middle 100 was absolute nails. From what, maybe 40 to around 130 looked spectacular. So well-balanced coming off the turn, just very natural with seemingly no energy wasted on transition. Seems to have a good body relationship to the track surface, if that means anything to non-sprinters. The Greener also had an exceptionally good relationship to the track. Knighton really seemed to feel out that turn. Remember how Dolt used to run it, with that nice body lean, but his head angled, to keep himself from falling into the turn and over the line? It will be nice to eventually have better video of Knighton and his turn form this season.
WHAT A 200 SEASON. For now it looks like a frontrunner in the person of Knighton has emerged from the pack, but that's just for now. Kerley and Norman already went 19.8, and Lyles has already shown that he is every bit Knighton's 100m equal, and maybe slightly better. Bednarek blew Knighton away in last year's final. In terms of exceptional times, IMO at nationals the 200m will vastly outshine the 100m, depending on the schedule. We may end up with the fastest 200m race in history, can you imagine the field in 19.6x and the leaders faster than that? Wow.
Anybody know Knighton's schedule? I guess some people are running in Nairobi in a few days, then the Doha DL comes soon after that. You would think that Knighton would have invitations to some good meets, given his results last year--but if not, how great would it be if he remained in north america and didn't suffer the travel-related fatigue that can get to people! Is he running at Eugene? Man, if this guy stays local, and runs Eugene and nationals, you are going to see something special. Guys like Kerley, Norman, Bednarek, and Lyles will have some mileage on them by the time nationals come around; guys like Knighton, Laird, Slade, etc. might be fresher.
If I were him, I would stick around, stay with my friends and family, and live in my own bubble, keep on doing what's obviously been working. I hope this clocking was accurate, and that it wasn't his one-off accidental PB. Remember how exciting it was when Lyles went 19.5, it seemed like there wasn't going to be any limit. I wonder if these guys will now push Lyles to a faster time.
If I were him I’d go altitude right now. And run an 18.99 to be the first man ever to under 19 seconds. And it will be the world record. Of course it will have an “A”next to it as being set it altitude but so did Mennea’s record from 1979 to 1996. It was simply the world record until Johnson broke it.
In the marathon Kipchoge broke two hours and will always be known as the first guy that did it —and it will be forgotten that it wasn’t perfectly legal circumstances. Ashton Lambie in cycling broke the 4000 m world record with a 3:59 last year and will always be known as the guy who first went under four minutes. And it is the official WR.
While I’m at it, Norman should go too and make a sub 43 attempt.

Just to add one point with regards to a post stating his last 50 looked ordinary: I believe that’s because Fanbulleh had started to keep pace at that point, and Fanbulleh’s last 50 is anything but ordinary

Just a nudda Bolt.
you are comparing to Bolt's progression. Is Knighton Bolt?
Matt Boling
200 Metres 19.92 -0.9 Geroge C. Griffin Track, Atlanta, GA (USA) 23 APR 2022
According to your logic will Boiling be running 19.30 3 years post his 19.9? (so by 2025?)
Just because Bolt progressed that way DOES NOT mean boling or KNIGHTON will follow the same trend
19.19 is another universe away from 19.49. I can tell most people here are puny distance runners with 25 second 200m PRs
Actually, Knighton is BETTER THAN Bolt, at the same ages (17, now 18). Knighton May never run faster than he just did, but NO ONE has ever displayed more potential to have big drops in the 200 than this kid.
If he pops a sub 9.9 later this summer, he will only further prove that potential.
But facts are irrelevant to genius sprinters, right?
Is he going to college? Should he go to college? What would you advice if you had his ear?
1. Move to Lexington, KY and train with C. Coleman and the talented young sprinters on the UKY squad. The University is investing heavily in Athletics [https://ky.milesplit.com/articles/309993/new-indoor-facility-coming-to-the-university-of-kentucky]. Lexington is relatively quiet & chill, but has just enough age-appropriate activities (big time D1 sports; lots of active youngsters your age; educational opportunities ranging from remedial to professional) to keep you sustained on many levels.
Fact: This phenomenally gifted young man has, to date, garnered far less attention or mentions on this forum than Matthew Boling, who has a few years on him. ¿Por qué?
Just maybe it has something to do with Bolling competing in 20 times in individual events this year, compared to Knighton's total of...3 10.61 10.39 and 10.04
Knighton is great, he's better, but he hadn't done anything major to talk about this season before today. Now he has, and we're talking about it.
Not everything is racist El Keniano, give it a rest.
You joking right? Knighton broke the U20 WR at 17 running faster than even Bolt. A damn 19.84 - a time Boling has not gotten close to even at his ripe old age of 23. At 17 years old, Knighton made the Olympic team where he placed 4th in the 200M final. Where was Boling again? You people can't be serious. Of course it's racist. What exactly has Boling accomplished? Beyond the hype of you people?
Nothing compared to Knighton as yet, but he will and would have done, if he hadn't hurt his foot last year. Just watch Knighton and Slade will be the two reshaping the 100M-400M sprints.
Great run. His technique looks so much better than any of the others from that race (except one, sorry I do not know any names).
I wonder, though, what are the odds that this will remain his PB forever, that he will never again run this fast?
He is already quite strong. He can not be stronger without gaining more muscle. More muscle means more weight to move around. What if he's akready at perfect balance, with his technique already set?
Yeah his form looked outstanding.
But consider that Dolt was more muscled then Knighton, and in part because of that had a better 100–and still didn’t fatigue terribly in the 200. Flake was even more extreme, the guy was/is huge, and has run the 200m faster than Dolt, excluding RT.
This is another of this year’s shocking early times, we now wait for confirmation. I did a thread years ago on how the best 200’s are usually run by guys when they are younger. He is sure striking while the iron is hot—still svelte, but with quick neurology, and that teenage fatigue resistance. Excellent 200m qualities.
Will he get 19.19? I do not put it past him. Heck, Flake would already have done it, had he not fallen asleep in the blocks.
Even if this clocking was wrong, we have what, a 19.6/19.65 run? Tremendous. DeGrasse must be glad the OG were last year😁
He just turned 18, he will get another testosterone boost next year. He will therefore get stronger and faster. I'm anticipating him running close to 19.00 before he's done. A bit of strength training without muscle mass and he will go quicker than 19.19.

Lol, Boling is still 21, give it a rest bro.
Blacks dominate sprinting, period. So when a white guy does real well it,'s a story. C'mon. That's just reality. It's unusual.
And as far as "what exactly has he accomplished? Beyond hype...?" How bout:
Only person in History other than King Carl to go sub 10, Sub 20, and more than 8m in LJ? I mean, that's worth SOMEthing, right?
ANnnnd..... he runs a mean 4x400 anchor.
[This Knighton run should really make him try more 400's though]
