Forty years ago, Roger Bailey created his LAB Profile and I was fortunate to learn his techniques back then.
Subsequently, it's been used successfully in a variety of fields... sales, leadership, motivation, and self-improvement... but it's a real shame that it has not been widely adapted to teaching.
In the (VERY) short version of LAB 1.0 that I learned 37 years ago, people learn in a combination of four ways... see, hear, read, and do. Studies show that most people have a preference for learning method, a second preference, and a weakness. In my case, my strength is reading followed by seeing. Hearing is my weakness. My ability to retain what I hear is very low.
I apologize for bringing race and sex into this, but I have to in order to make my point. Studies show males and females learn differently. Studies also show that the preferred learning method for black males is doing and seeing. This puts them at a disadvantage in a math classroom because they aren't physically "seeing" the 3 apples that Bob has or the 1 apple he gives away... nor are they doing the giving of the apple away.
OTOH, students like me who learn by reading have a distinct advantage because we can skim textbooks and retain far more than people whose primary learning method is seeing or doing.
