However, let me address your irrelevant boxing example. If Mike Tyson dropped enough pounds to become a welterweight, he would be allowed to box Sugar Ray, yes? Isn’t that what we are talking about with transathletes? Once an athlete transitions (goes up or down in weight, changes gender), then they are eligible to compete? If you are saying that Thomas’s prior gender disqualifies her from her competing in her new gender, then you should also think that boxers who were once 200 lbs. are disqualified from ever boxing against someone who is 160lbs., or am I understanding your argument incorrectly?
The problem here is that Thomas has not dropped to welterweight. She has dropped to light heavyweight and insists that she should be allowed to compete in welterweight because she is no longer heavyweight.
Yeah. That analogy was amusing. To use it properly, estrogen therapy would be the equivalent of a 220 pound heavyweight dropping down to 200 and still fight a 148 pound welterweight.
I am far from the fastest runner. At 50+ years of age, I have placed less than handful of times after racing for 4 decades. However, I am sure if I identified as a middle schooler, I could dominate the competition. Not sure I would brag about it, though
It is legal for a person to transgender but not a 50+ year old to attend middle school. If you just gotta finally win a race, you should buy a forged DL and compete in the 70-year old division. If your motivation is to hang out with children and you aren’t already in the sex offender database, maybe you could become a LL coach.
Nice try. If the rules can change to let men who think they are women compete against women, why doesn't my argument carry weight. Those rules can change, too. But I think you overlooked (on purpose) my point - this man is beating women and is proud of it.
*He He can cross dress all he wants, but anyone with a Y chromosome is a dude. Science says so.
Gender and sex are separate concepts.
Just like "global warming" became "climate change." Just like "illegal immigration" became "undocumented migration." The left always changes definitions so they can re-frame the argument.

I hate to break it to you but you can’t attend middle school. No judge are anyone else will support you. It’s actually kind of sick.

Arguments constantly evolve and need to be re-framed. It used to be don’t ask don’t tell and now we have same sex marriage. This is typically how progress works.

Lack of foresight, and actually kind of bigoted on your part. People were once as certain that people couldn't be transgendered, as you are that people can't be trans-age. Not long ago, "no judge would support" a person claiming transgender status, and people would have claimed such person was "actually kind of sick."

This is exactly the type of rhetoric that NAMBLA members use to claim persecution. I hope some of the other conservatives on the board take a look at posts like this and question if this is the side they really want to be on.

Arguments can evolve, but definitions shouldn't. Otherwise, your definitions aren't well-defined.
As a biological female with a swimming and running background who has breasts, ovaries, has given birth to two children, and will never have a body fat level below 15%, I can accept Lia as a woman.
I will never accept her as a biological female.
I am a biological female who identifies as a woman.
Lia is a biological male that identifies as a woman.
I have two biological female daughters who play sports. I will stand up for them.
No. Thomas is biologically male who identifies as a woman based on body dysphoria. Biologically and physiologically Thomas is male, and that reality cannot be politely brushed aside when we are talking about athletics. While society will respect that self-identification, this type of mindless absolutism where no compromise or distinctions are permitted and where no other considerations can be weighed is just stupid. Here Thomas's right to have her gender identity respected directly encroached on the right of female athletes to have their own sports based on the simple and indisputable fact that female athletes cannot compete with male athletes on anything close to a level playing field. Here Thomas acted like a bully and a selfish jerk.
We can't assume that Thomas or anyone else who calls themselves trans today has body dysphoria - or feels any other kind of mental distress, in fact. In a FAQ first released in 2016, the USA's National Center for Transgender Equality explained:
"Not all transgender people have gender dysphoria. On its own, being transgender is not considered a medical condition. Many transgender people do not experience serious anxiety or stress associated with the difference between their gender identity and their gender of birth, and so may not have gender dysphoria."
Transgender people come from every region of the United States and around the world, from every racial and ethnic background, and from every faith community. Transgender people are your classmates, your coworkers, your neighb...
Even those trans persons who actually do suffer from gender dysphoria and have been diagnosed with it can't be assumed to have any issues with their bodies. Disliking one's own physical sex characteristics or body in any way at all has never been necessary to get a clinical diagnosis of gender dysphoria.
The diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria listed in the DSM-V and the ICD-11 show that disliking the sex stereotyped clothing, hairstyles, toys, interests and roles typically associated with one's own sex and preferring/desiring to embrace the sex stereotyped clothing, hairdos, toys, interests and so on commonly associated with the opposite sex is all that is needed to get a diagnosis of clinical GD.
Also, nowadays a clinical diagnosis of gender dysphoria can be obtained in a single consult with a "gender therapist" for $150 - and the consult can be done by video link. An in-person visit is not required.
For a number of years now, the idea that being trans goes hand in hand with having gender dysphoria has long been considered "problematic" in the trans community. Many say it's deeply transphobic.
A main reason the issue of gender dysphoria remains alive amongst trans activists today is that private health insurance companies, government-run health systems like the UK's NHS, and taxpayer-funded health insurance like the USA's Medicaid and Medicare usually require a diagnosis of GD in order to pay for "gender affirming" medical interventions like cross-sex hormones, testosterone suppressant drugs, double mastectomies and "facial feminization" surgeries. (The latter two are the most commonly requested and performed "gender affirming" surgical procedures performed for purposes of "transition" on females and males respectively in recent years.)
this thread should say, 'Emily Weyant, national champion'. Emily was the winner of the race. What a man was doing in another lane is should not be relevant, because men can't 'win' women's races.

Lia Thomas is also someone’s daughter. Every should be stood up for.

Definitions also change over time. Language is always evolving.
To put it bluntly the supposed medical research into this issue has been so politicized as to be worthless. Today if research showed that there is a much better outcome treating this as an emotional disorder and helping transgender persons better cope with it as opposed to immediately prescribing radical medical intervention (which is exactly what it showed until political lobbying threw the Hippocratic oath out the window), it would never see the light of day. We are supposed to believe that a male who identifies as female to the point that it becomes a serious emotional impediment has no underlying condition or disorder, that this is perfectly healthy and natural? But it sure seems like a psychological disorder on the same plane as anorexia.
Then again for decades we refused to treat a host of psychological conditions as medical conditions. But here we are taking a medical condition and treating it like a lifestyle choice. Certainly does not help the people that have it, but when has that ever mattered to the so-called advocates on this issue?
No. Thomas is a biological male who identifies as a female who was perfectly happy cheating and bullying biologically female athletes while declaring herself stunning and brave.
I'm all for personal freedom...dress as you wish, modify your body as you wish, use any name and pronoun you wish. I'm even for trans people being able to use the public restroom of their new gender (I mean, you really have to be on board with this...there are some transgender men with beards that you can't tell were born female, and they would freak out any woman who saw them in the women's restroom). Really the rule for restrooms should just be "Don't do anything illegal in there." We've seen time and time again women who don't want to wait for a stall head to the men's restroom, and no one thinks anything of it other than "more power to those women!".
BUT, when it comes to athletics, I'm sorry, an obvious unfair advantage. Should not be allowed. It's stupid that it has been allowed for this long.
So you are just fine and dandy with a creepy old man sharing the women's bathroom with a 5-year-old girl?
Transgendered people as a matter of course are not pedophiles. Illegal activity should be what is attacked, not some stupid idea that transgendered people become so to creep on people. A 5-year-old girl should be escorted to a public restroom by her parent or guardian anyway. Many countries have gender neutral bathrooms as do many college campuses. Stop being a wuss.
