Posters saying Howard went all South Side are saying you can take the boy out of the hood but you can't take the hood out of the boy. Which is bs, Howard's been around a long time he's the freaking coach and should be setting the example for all the kids just getting out of the south side.
Well the reason it's being used is because when he lost the plot vs Maryland it was the exact excuse he gave for his behavior.
And I agree with you - I would hope that there has been some sort of growth and actualization as a human being from Juwan Howard in the, lets say, 30+ years since he was a kid on the "south side", you know given he's lived a considerable life of privilege and luxury after earning more than 150 million dollars in a career of bouncing a ball and trying to throw it through a metal ring, but I guess not. 49 going on 13.
Michigan was pressing and in order to avoid a backcourt turnover Wisconsin called time out. Wisconsin would gladly have let the clock run down.
Howard is a punk. We all know why he gets a pass.
Yeah which is a key little piece of information in all of this. The "upset at the timeout" is just a bullsh$t excuse for being frustrated and being outplayed and outcoached - a convenient excuse and nothing more. Because if a 75 second timeout really sets you off like that you should be in straightjacket - not that behaving that way for getting your a$$ kicked is any better. And yes, he get's a pass based on racial privilege because we need to make up for Bobby Knight throwing a chair on the court back in 1985. There, said it.
I was expecting a wild swing and miss like you usually see from a tall beanpole but this was a short, decently aimed knife-fist. Not effect but at least it landed
The term comes from hay makers who swung a scythe to cut the hay. It started to be used in boxing as a swing. So your use of the term to require a fist is in accurate. It merely means to swing something. Howard used a haymaker slap.
Fired and go to jail overnight followed by a civil lawsuit. Imagine somebody hitting you in the head at work. Just because the players are in a sport that has some contact involved doesn't permit coaches to strike another person. Howard isn't a player but he seems to think he is. I hope the Wisconsin coach files suit for injury incurred.
Yeah I didn't watch the extended video until today which shows the 20 or so seconds after the slap/punch/scratch from Howard where he gets pushed back away from the melee by what looks to be an assistant he goes full "south side Chicago mode" trying to bullrush the pile again, doing the classic "hold me back cuz" charade like a f-ing pyscho. It actually reminded me of Isaiah Stewarts big act vs Lebron and the Lakers - except he's also 20 years old and not a 49 year old coach and alleged role model of college aged kids. Totally embarrassing and I'm not sure how any player is supposed to take him seriously moving forwards when it comes to basic "discipline" "emotions in check" etc
So just read it looks like he's been suspended the rest of the season. Honestly Michigan? Weak and spineless. Reeks of privilege - however you want to interpret that be my guest.

Howard himself has said his South Side Chicago upbringing is why he goes all hood in these situations.

Sounds like he's aware of the problem but refuses to address it.
The Wisconsin coach started the altercations and both coaches should be suspended. Media can't get the headlines correct.
Are you serious? The Wisconsin coach "started" it? This is also Howards BS narrative - "someone put their hands on me" - dude, you aren't on the streets anymore. Did he feel threatened for his safety by a middle aged chubby white guy standing in his way and touching him on the side of his arm (the "hands" I witnessed) at the end of a nationally televised college basketball game? Really? That is not an altercation and if that "threatens" you into fight mode then you really do need to take some time away from the environment to get yourself right. The altercation comes when Juwan Howard grabs Gards shirt and sticks his finger in the guys face and then loses his mind by going at another guys head with his hand (as if a close fist or open hand is even relevant).
Judging from the replies we see that tribal solidarity trumps right/wrong/common sense...
Some people in our society simply have different values...
I don't know why this is getting thumbs down. Yesterday I heard Kendrick Perkins use Bobby Knight throwing a chair on the court back in 1985 as an example of how this wasn't that bad and how he seen "way worse on a college basketball court". Really? Have you? What was worse than this? I've seen players actually playing the game get into it and throw punches. I've seen coaching jawing at each other almost nose to nose, pointing fingers (Georgia v Missouri) - but I have never seen a coach throw a hand/fist and or need to be held back like a crazy person as they try and rush the pile (to do what btw).
Sounds like shaking hands is grounds for punching someone because they touched you.
Exactly - in this case more like putting your hand on a guys arm to stop him childishly trying to avoid shaking your hand. For all the people pedaling this narrative of "Wisconsin coach touched him first" - next time you are in your place of work and someone "touches" you this way please do us all a favor and grab the persons shirt, stick your finger in their face and then try and smack them in the head and then please come back to this thread and report on what happened to you.
