This thread is ridiculous. The whole point of training and running is to compete and get attention and recognition. Are there top marathoners out there running in private like batman?

The women haters of Letsrun are out in full glory on this thread. This site really is a lot of trash.
Dudes get a life please. We all know the pretty girls wanted nothing to do with you but try therapy. Anonymously bashing specific people on the internet is only making your mental Illnesses worse.
You have to have an online presence or else your sponsors won’t care to carry you. This is a big part of why Ben true doesn’t have a sponsor.[/quote]
Yet he still has dignity and is faster than half these clowns who post every time they take a dump.
The Iron Cowboy.
Something is so off about that dude. I get major narcissist vibes the way his family is basically dragged along for the ride. And the organization that he raised funds for during his Conquer 100 is crooked as fck

And, also, he does have a sponsor (Asics).

Best at staying in the background is Des Linden. she works in silence and then lets her success speak for her. she rarely posts and when she does its not something that hypes her up or looks like she's trying to be cool. She's quiet and humble. admits her failures.
I love Des, and Emma Coburn.
They get social media likes and comments and whatnot, but they feel authentic.
A lot of these social media influencers evoke envy in me but then I dig a little and find out some of them, even the faster runners, have had their own struggles and it makes me realize I'm grateful to be able to deal with my own things (I never had eating disorders at least).

Bloody Steph Bruce who just constantly tells the world her mum died and she’s still grieving but she’s tough! Yeah so tough and she’s got grit and she’s going to finish sixth in just about every race she does. She will remind us for her kids and her cucky hubby and we will get to see photos of her odd stomach every post
I like and respect Steph; her husband doesn't seem weak. And she's a grinder, a hard worker that maximizes her talent.
So under what circumstances can women be criticized? Truth be told, I think Craig Engels is taking a way worse beating here than any woman.

I always loved Amy Hastings back in the day because she never was a LOOK AT ME athlete. There were many others in her day that were but who falls into that category today?
This has turned into a “is social media important” thread. That was never my intention. No one should be suckered in by someone’s social media and believe that that is a reflection of the athlete. The biggest stars have someone else do their social media for them. I am talking about interviews and how they handle the press.
Anyone who wants to make money and have sponsors.
Molly Seidel’s airplane story and bumble thing are turning a lot of people off, as seen on this thread

Nick Willis. Still. By his own design and need to remain relevant.
The man just loves the sport and was still borderline elite-relevant at the 2021 Oly. Get lost.
