Sean Brosnan’s “4:20 is not that fast” shirt is stupid

What a turd. Anything around 4:20 is fast for a high schooler. Ask all the other heats of kids that are 4:49 and above. People on this board have got to be moronic. D1 -D3 it’s necessary. It’s high school sports.

I seriously doubt HS runners around the country are getting their souls crushed by this T-shirt if they run 4:30. HS is already tough as it is with peer pressure to be cool, buy clothes you can't afford, avoiding physical bullying and cyberbullying. For real no one cares. A 4:20 isn't fast shirt is so low on the list of things on a HS runner's radar. I grew up watching great teams wear t shirts that bragged about their state titles and how good they were varios over the top or outlandish slogans or mottos. I survived and didn't even think about it other than "Oh those guys are badass." Maybe slight jealousy or rivalry feels but I was never hurt by someone advertising their achievements were better than mine or my teams. Your own world in your own high school is rough enough without being stuck on what's on another team's shirts. The next race and workout is all that you really dwell on at least in my day.

Was he also wearing a pair of jeans that looked painted on?

Where is this shirt that people keep talking about? Is there a picture of it? I searched Google and found nothing.

Brosnan’s statement was true in the 70s. Stop with the participation trophy mentality.

It's simple. He's raising expectations for his team, and it's working.

Can someone make a t-shirt that says "Sean Brosnan was never that fast."

Maybe he wears the 4:20 shirt to bring to light the era of super spikes, and how much of an impact they've had on times. 4:10 is the new 4:20 from what I hear.

After all this debate, I guess he’s right. There are no limits. You can make up whatever time you want or whatever accomplishments you want.

that's like 10 minute/mile marathon pace. not fast. seems accurate to me.

I ran 4:31 in hs. While I knew that was above average I was good friends with several 4:1x guys(I thought I could beat the 4:2x guys just never did lol) and when we lined up at invitationals I never once thought I was close to them. Also got to see a few 4:0x hs guys. It would be kind of irrational for me to believe my time was super fast or anything like that.

FACT: 4:20 is "not that fast"

Sure, it's not terrible but it's also not within 10 seconds of the top milers in the nation in high school. If you're losing by 10 seconds in a mile you're probably not that fast.

The team obviously is aware their coach got criticized for the comment and they wear it as motivation for the team. I bet most of those kids will run 4:20 in that system.
