Sha’Carri is only 21, don’t forget that. She’s only been competing professionally for 2 years on the national scene, and for even less on the international scene.

Simply put, she is extremely immature in this sport. Yes, she may be the 6th fastest athlete of all time in the 100m, but she practically has no experience competing at an international level. This race was a little serving of humble pie for Richardson. This race showed her that she is not, in fact, the fastest person in the world.

I’m hoping that she will come to learn from this race, as well as some of the poor choices she has made leading up to this race. I would like to see her run faster as she progresses and matures in the sport through experience.

Age has nothing to do with it. Shes a grown ass woman. There's younger people that show more composure.

I didn’t use the word “racist”. She didn’t sound to me like begging for help, rather she sounded like she had shocking confidence in herself despite a terrible run. Granted, she may be in need of a mentor.

We don’t know that she didn’t take a long hard look at herself after being (legitimately) booted from the Olympics.

She couldn’t skip the interview as that’s part of the contract and was probably the single most important thing for her sponsors and race organizers irrespective of her performance.

If you put aside her twang, her words (even after defeat) and her makeup and everything are all accepted in other women runners. In fact, those same words were positively viewed even in her own second interview that just sounded like the same SCR but one that went to a nicer school.

Disagree. Most 21-year olds would be terrified after that performance. She was likely rattled and crying inside and probably on the verge of crying openly but overcompensating with bravado for the media. But yes, composure doesn’t appear to be her strength; she’s a hyper personality.

However SCR is neither a role model nor trash. She’s a talented runner that hasn’t achieved anything big yet but does have potential, comparable to or more than anyone else we currently have in American women sprinting. Hopefully she achieves her potential and doesn’t get completely broken by attacks by haters online.

You’re completely right. Many younger athletes have shown much greater composure and maturity than Sha’Carri. Many older athletes have also ungraciously faced defeat the same way that Sha’Carri did.

Make no mistake, what she did was embarrassing to say the least. I’m just hoping that she’ll use this experience to mature herself physically and emotionally.

Agree with the second sentence. But personality with modest elite-level talent can fetch you more like something closer to a tenth of a percent of all of Starbucks.

She did top the Olympic trials after all, so it’s too soon to write her talent off.

No she didn't. She was doping. I could win the trials 1500 if I cut across the track but that wouldn't count just like her result didn't count because she cheated.
