A few years back I was contacted by a world class jumper (top 5) who contended that Creatine he bought had been contaminated. He received a 2 year suspension. He had the Creatine tested ( the container had a “guaranteed pure” seal on the front) and it was indeed tainted. The USADA shortened his suspension from 2 years to nine months, so he missed an entire season.
He wanted to sue the manufacturer for the false labeling. I put him in contact with a law firm that had successfully sued drug manufacturers and distributors for this claim on behalf of pro football players. Since the most they could receive was 30% of one year of track winnings, and his average winnings as a triple jumper were under $30 k per year, the law firm refused to take his case.

I don't think Houlihan is a rogue who somehow doped on her own without any help. I think either she had help from her coach, or another athlete. Either way, something is rotten in the state of BTC.

Yes it's unlikely. That's why I was so upset with the BTC statements. They should have said what you are going to hear is very unlikely to have happened but it does happen and sadly innocents are being banned from teh sport.

Now what do I agree with.
1) I'd like to see her receipts and learn how she did the food log. I have no idea what I ate yesterday but I guess if I got popped I probably could figure a lot of it out by credit card statements. But I'd like to see the receiprts/statements. But I think a lot of people naturally wonder how you came up with a good log.
2) I want to see the polygraph test. Who did that? Whose idea was it? Can I talk to the polygrapher.
Seriously if she produced a receipt and showed us, I’d be significantly more inclined to believe her.
I mean if I wa in this situation, I’d send in the receipt to letsrun and beg them to post it on the homepage
Some of the banned drugs on the list have a name with 40 characters and then they say this this is not all that is banned.
No coach is going to study such a list and if they do understand it.
Very few medics would if hardly any without further referencing or consulting.

My money is on the coaches. This also explains why the coaches are so vehemently defending her, even after CAS unanimously condemned her and gave her the full four years ban.
I hope that once it sinks in that this is a clear cut case of a hard core steroid doper, Schumacher and Flanagan will have some tough questions to answer, and ultimately BTC gets dissolved like NOP.
In that context, it is interesting to note that even the non-compliant USADA was target-testing the BTC stars for a while. Apparently there have been quite a few suspicious test results.

The most annoying thing for me was the Lance Armstrong styled counter attacks from Schumacher and Flanagan. What an utter disgrace, "Oh she couldn't be a doper, she's a sweet person." I had a snap shot from the NY marathon of Flanagan, "likely doping" Keitany and others and said to a sports doctor "Which of these is likely doping" He pointed to the very muscular Flanagan, not Keitany. He asked "who won?" I informed him Flanagan. His point was well made. Given that Houlihan is the 1% that gets caught it's safe to say that BTC has a darker side.

Yes. Rule 2.1.1
The athlete is responsible for a positive test due to food intake (includes supplements of course).
If she used an apparently legal supplement that was contaminated with Nandrolone and that could be proven she would most likely have received a reduced ban, six months to two years. Her team was hoping the contaminated burrito story would be believed and she would get off with something less and still make Tokyo or the next World Championships.

So despite being part of a coaching squad we are to believe the coaches had no part in her doping. If that is so and they didnt know it shows how unfortunate Renato's claim is that he would know if his athletes doped. Shelby shows he wouldn't.

The tainted meat explanation has been used countless times and rarely is successful. Her team undoubtly knew the chances of winning the appeal was close to nil, but it was the best story they had.

I’m convinced AIU received an anonymous tip on their encrypted whistleblower site. At first, I was convinced it was Quigley, but she doesn’t seem savvy enough. Matt Centrowitz is another possibility, because he has connections, but he wouldn’t risk his own career. The best theory is it was an insider from USADA.
