All the better, if you think d'Amato can improve that much. There is hardly anyone with a PB sub 32 in the race, so whoever gets close to or sub 31 will be rather lonely and everyone running such pace after the pacers drop out will be some help for others striving for the Olympic qualifying mark. Of course there are question marks with Koko because of her injury (although this was in august/september, I think she has been running again for 3 months or more) but putting her best performances in 3k/5k in a calculator you will get sub 30. Taking the middle between such a possible best and her old best from 2016 one gets to around 31. I am pretty sure she would not start if they would not expect her to get sub 31:25 and the German record of 31:03 could be an incentive to run a bit faster in the second half. KK ran 14:26 and 14:30 basically solo, I would not be too surprised a negative split.

The women's 5k will be interesting, predicting a close race between Purrier and Coburn with Maggie Montoya as a darkhorse in this race.

Citius up to ~40k views on YouTube for those who keep complaining about the FREE coverage. I thought Emma did fine. She was a little awkward but post race interviews are never really that insightful. You have 30 seconds to ask how an athlete felt and what's coming up next. Also maybe distance runners aren't super exciting all the time. Craig brought more energy to his 30 seconds but he's also a big energy kind of guy.

Anyways instead of being cranky, I just want to say thank you to Citius. Fun to have free coverage for distance events on a Friday night. Fun to not miss a break for a commercial or field event. More engaging content than a national broadcast with more of a laid back field. I wish other sports would let some folks with some new ideas in the broadcast booth. Usually coverage is super plain/boring. At least this had some excitement.

D’Amato is a strange case given her mid-thirties improvements. She ran 10mi. last fall in 51:23, which is ~31:52 10k pace. Couple that with a 15:08 road 5k and you can expect her to absolutely demolish that 10k PB. I doubt she’ll threaten 31:00, but she’s got a shot at the 31:25 standard.

Love the drones, also thought the commentating was great, definitely blows the sound people out of the water. Citius put a big investment into this and it paid off in the form of sponsors. It is not cheap to put on this level of coverage, so kudos to them and hopefully it continues beyond this meet.

I think with good weather a McSweyn will run 12:53, so that’s about 150m ahead of my prediction for James West for the win today.
