Why should “diversity” play any part into Hall’s presence on her team? Her accolades speak for themselves. Color of skin or gender should play no part in acquisition of ANY job- why would you not want the best person to fill the slot? People are done a disservice when positions are granted based on anything but merit and performance. Again, Hall’s accolades stand alone. It’s offensive to insinuate otherwise.
What you fail to understand is that the "job" of a BTC runners isn't to win races, it's to sell shoes -- if not in a direct way, then by improving the brand's reputation and increasing its outreach. Why do you think NOP had "token" runners from a variety of different countries (Farah from GB, Levins from Canada, Osako from Japan, Koko from Germany)? It's not because they were "the next fastest runner in the world" and thus the best person for the job. If that was the case, they would have brought in Kenyan or Ethiopian runners who (in the case of Levins or Osako, at least) would have run faster for less money. But Nike felt those runners could boost its reputation/visibility in other markets.
I fully agree that Hall is worthy of a spot on BTC purely on the basis of her running accomplishments. But to note that her "diversity" is an additional asset that Nike is undoubtedly aware of when negotiating her contract is just stating the obvious. It's not charity, it's a rational business decision.
