If I am a Yankees fan and their record is 15-9 and there is the Mets who have a record of 17-5 do you think I should jump the fence and all of a sudden be a Mets fan? People don't do this. I am Pro-Jakob, but his versatility is cool but not as important as it seems like some are trying to make it to be. He is off to a great start in his career, but if he wants to be a legend in the sport he will have to improve to the level of beating Tim Cheruiyot in the 1500 or Kiplimo, Cheptegei, Barega, Edris et al. in the 5000. Merely being good at two things is not the goal. Being great at one or great at both is the goal.

Augustine Choge has spectacular range, but give me Nick Willis' career a million times over his even if he was only world-class at one event. I would say the same about Lopez Lomong (spectacular range) and Thomas Longosiwa say.

In a race where the pace has been kept honest, as it was in this 3K, I am not at all surprised that the runner specializing in the longer distance had more in the tank over the homestretch.

The idea of developing a kick or needing more will to win is utter nonsense.

If they had sat back for 7 laps, I would expect the 1500 runner to have the edge, otherwise it's just a matter of who is stronger. In this case it was Kiplimo.

Some people just like to go over the top. Tim has no obligation to beat JI in the 3000 to indulge you. For one, it's not his event. He is 11-0 vs him in the 1500. Kiplimo isn't a 3k runner but he beat JI there. He is more of a 5k/10k/roads guy. He also has no obligation to you or anyone to run against JI in the 1500. TC and JK probably don't train for the 1500, so we don't even know their limits there. All this is moot. Winners aren't picked by combining times or awarding points for multiple events (Only in the decathlon and heptathlon). So you can get your calculator out and add up whatever you want, it's only for your purposes. That's not how winning is determined or the meet prize money is shared. Now, once u commit to multiple events like JI and get beaten by the best people in those events, you can't whip out your calculator, add up your PBs in the events and assert you have won on that basis. You still have to win each event individually and if you fail, you accept your finishing position. I believe JI respects these rules for determining the winner. You should do the same. Will save you a lot of stress.

why are you celebrating some distance runner being 'versatile' in distance running when there's a man like korir running world class times in sprint AND middle distance? actual different events and he's mastered both. KORIR=EMPEROR

Yes Jakob is much more talented than any American in history not Named Bernard Lagat.

He’s only 19 and I do believe he will improve his times slightly since there’s not much room of improvement. He is in the top 10 in most distances and we eventually will be in the top 10 in every single distance from 1500m to the 10,000m.

This is demonstrably false. 15, 16, 17 year olds have won senior championship medals. Kipchoge got his at 18. Barega has a senior medal. Kiplimo has a XC medal. JI for all his versatility has no senior medal. Unless your knowledge of track history is very limited, you wouldn't begin to make such an argument.
