A crazy run from a 19 year old lad, isn't it?

7:27 is a great mark. In many eras, it would put him in position to win gold at 1,500 or 5,000. But it looks like a loaded field at 5,000 and Cheruiyot has been unbeatable at 1,500. If he got a silver, that would be a great achievement. Doesn't look like a double is possible.
One word.
Ridonkulous.
1500 OR 5000, yes. Not both. Why not go for 5000? That would be great!
Great run and hopefully we will have many duels between Jakob and the Ugandans in the years ahead.
12:47-12:52 5k is what I think this. Time means.
Was a great race to watch and I thought he would hang on for the win but Kiplimo was just to strong in the end.
My take from watching him these past few seasons is that he needs to develop more of a kick and work on his top end speed but he is so young and this will come in the end. I just don’t see him kicking away from the likes of Tim, Jacob, Joshua and even Mo Ahmed and Barega to a certain extent.
Mcsweyn also ran brilliantly for a new Aussie record, this has been a long time coming for him this season.
Better than expected really. I was thinking somthing like 7.30-32, but here he comes! Better than ever!
If he had enough grit to actually WIN a race, it would have been 7:26.
Unless Kiplimo retires or peaks, Jakob is gonna be 2nd best his entire career at every distance he runs.

Kiplimo will never peak. Only Jakob peaks. He peaked when he was 16, he peaked when he was 17, he peaked when he was 18 etc.

The schedule has the two finals within a 12-hour period it looks like.
Jakob would have a tough time winning the 5,000 but he has one guy really to beat in the 1,500. Tim is great, but let's not forget he doesn't have a crazy turn of speed and was once vulnerable to a kicker like his teammate Elijah Manangoi. It is Jakob's best chance, and if he can develop his turn of speed as he keeps growing faster who knows what he can do with Tim having to do a lot of the work.
So so close to 7:26.xx!
Kiplimo, who ran faster than Jakob, is also 19.
Great run for Jakob. I think the result of the race, though, shows that you can't assume the runner with the faster 1500 PB automatically can kick faster.
congratulations to the real jacob on his sub 7:27
Jakob looked more interested in running a fast time than winning, which is perfectly valid. If he really just wanted to win he could have started his kick later and it may have been a different race.

Possibly. I thought the same but still not sure about who would have won if Jakob had waited.
My takeaway was that he was second best again. Is he just a poor tactician or does he lack something that the best-of-the-best have? He's still young but it's not like he lacks experience. Maybe he needs a Salazar figure to get him to that championship winning level

He's won 5 of his 8 races this year. He was beaten by better runners, that's just where he ranks. Nothing wrong with that.
It is great for anyone. Not sure why Jacob supporters insist on listing his age as a qualifier. His training age is older than most 24 year olds. He has maybe 4 years of improvement left max. Doesn’t really matter that he is 19.
