I'm glad I didn't run in high school. I feel bad for these girls and how stressful it must be to have your body go through puberty and slow you down, or delay puberty as much as possible and end up broken.

So she does a work that equals to a 9:20 2-mile but only races a 9:39 2-mile with multiple male pacers? Something isn't right there.

If you truly mean it, she should have just done a real 9:20 2-mile instead of the 8x1k workout when she was in that shape on that day.

Training as hard as possible is usually not the best way for long-term development. Training as SMART as possible would be - and I have listed a recent 5-day cycle of her which was just full of insane quality and killer/superheroine workouts. I'm glad she is on a mandatory break now since the TT, but hope the training won't get even harder in autumn when they prepare her to compete (and win) for NXN.

Looks like NFHS is going to look to ratify as high school record with asterisk (*) denoting COVID-19 pandemic, so at least it will be in the history books recorded as a footnote. Good for her/them on pending decision.

Have you ever run a time trial? Most kids can't come close to a real race performance. You guys seem to think that a time trial with pacers is just as fast but it is not the same as having 10,000 people in the stands and the adrenaline caused from racing.

Here's the weather in Denton, Texas the past few days. Typical highs in the upper 80s, lows in the 60s, high dew point of 70 degrees. Not the greatest weather for a 3200m race.

I would say it is an artificial result. Taking the highly contrived nature of the set up into account where she is being as draft protected as possible between two male runners and escorted from wire to wire, this was a 9:55-10:00 3200 that got draft aided to about 9:40. The science of drafting is well established. And has anyone ever seen a set up like that? Like any top female two miler would see in the area of a 15 second time boost. Just imagine Hart or Vanderlande with that set up. Or imagine Tuohy having her own special wire to wire running escort of much faster runners when she soloed for the record at the Loukes games and the amount of time and energy that would have saved her. The set up was a manipulation.

Run anywhere comparable to that time in a real race and prove me wrong. Or right.

Yes, I would also be able to race much faster if I could handle her workouts (which I can't).

The thing is, Brown is a pure slow-twitch runner. Like Reed Fischer, Salazar, Radcliffe, etc. Her 800m PB is 2:18, and her 400 probably around 63s. Even her mile time is subpar, and she was already VERY fast in 3200 and 5000 when she was still weak in the mile.

So she will never produce lots of lactate, but her aerobic system and VO2MAX are incredibly strong. Also she can hold a very high % of her VO2MAX in races. Understand it now? You can't compare yourself, or other runners with her. She is not in the middle where 90% of runners fall, the 50/50 types. She is in the "born marathoner" category.

Expect her to win many races with frontrunning/outrunning the competition, but also lose many that come down to a sprint finish/kick.

Attributes of a high VO2MAX/strong aerobic relative to anaerobic system are ability to recover fast during intervals (which she has shown) and ability to handle volumes at VO2MAX (which she has shown with her mile repeats and 1k's). What would destroy her is speed work, since she doesn't have the ratio of FT fibers that most runners have.

Was Nico's 8:40 only worth 8:55 because Cole paced him? And Cole would have run 8:25 with a pacer? Wow!! Sprout is 30 seconds faster than Young. Not many would agree with you.

You are being intentionally obtuse. But if a work out was set up where Nico had faster pro runners escort and intentionally draft protect him from wire to wire, which is simply not how pacing in a pro race works, I would say the same thing. That it was a manipulation to artificially boost his time.

Please tell me then how much it was worth for each last year? 1 second per lap? Then Sprout wins by 16 seconds. .5 per lap? Then Sprout wins by 10 seconds. But if 15 seconds, Sprout wins by 30 seconds. I don't understand how it is applied to Brown but not others. Seems like a few people don't want to admit to her greatness.

If you do not want to recognize the scientific effects of drafting for an entire race despite decades of research and experience in runner or cycling, Ok. For example watch any Tour de France replay and watch how much commentary there is about the importance of a domestique leading a team leader even up a mountain climb and the amount of energy it saves and its importance in keeping the team leader fresh. Yes they are both cycling up the mountain, but the domestique has a harder job and is expending a much greater effort. You spin all day and you are not going to change reality. What we saw was not draft protection alone, it was shuttle service.

I celebrate greatness when I see it for real. And I criticize attempts to claim at greatness when it isn't. If people want to claim that such a blatant manipulation is record worthy, then you are damn right I will be critical.
