I already read those. Nobody disputes the account of what Biden said in the meeting, which was that he wanted to wait for more intelligence.

The most incriminating statement in the link I posted above was Gates saying “Biden’s primary concern was the political consequences of failure.”. That’s Biden. Career politician. Always focused on politics instead of the real issues. That’s why the evacuation of Afghanistan turned into such a cluster. Politics over common sense.

That was Gates' opinion of Biden's motivation. He did not give any reason for that opinion. So we can conclude, it was just an opinion and nothing more.

I never voted for Trump. I'm glad he lost. I hope he doesn't run again.

As far as the primary, here's my take. First, ALL those candidates sucked and I say that as a registered Dem. I did kinda like Gabbard and Buttigieg but both need more experience. The party hierarchy decided to support Biden provided he picked Harris as a running mate. They knew Biden was declining but he's a white male with name recognition and they could get him elected, have him serve 2-3 years and then step down due to "health reason" so Harris could take over. The pandemic worked in Biden's favor for two reasons--it made Trump look bad and it allowed Biden to stay off the campaign trail where his declining mental state would have been obvious to voters. He could barely hold it together long enough to get through a debate as evidenced by his watch checking. Day after day of media scrutiny would have exposed him. The party wants to go in a more "progressive" direction (which is why I no longer feel loyalty to the party, The party left me) and Harris is perfect, liberal, female and a POC. Now, that will sound like tin foil hat material but all the signs point to that. Biden will resign at some point early enough to let Harris get established and make her mark before the next election.

Did you notice in Biden's speech yesterday that he started talking about his son Beau and then stopped. He stopped because he knows he's been criticized for talking about HIS son while trying to console gold star families. I'll give him credit for having enough mental acuity remaining to realize he was about to make the same blunder again. And I think the photos of Biden checking his watch (which he did numerous times) speak for themselves. If you'll recall he was caught checking his watch during one of the debates too. He can only focus so long and then his mind wanders. Or maybe he just has a really pretty watch.

Biden got us out of Afghanistan DESPITE the political fallout. The withdraw was always going to be a political mess. It was always going to be politically risky. And the fact that he did get us out destroys the narrative that Biden only cares about politics.

The easy thing to do politically would be to do what the past presidents had done, which was to just stay there and let the next president deal with the problem.

Maybe you've never been in meetings of this type as a board member, military leader, etc but here's how they go if conducted by a good leader (and I think Obama probably handled it this way). The leader solicits input without giving away his/her opinion. Get honest advice, not "yes man" stuff. Discuss the pro and cons. Talk about a few what ifs. Get all ideas on the table. Debate. Leader adds his/her thoughts. More discussion. Go around the room, one person at a time and get their final answer, yes or no. Leader makes the final decision. Biden came through with a no. AND he was focused on politics. And let's remember that Gates once said Biden "has been wrong on every major policy decision" and Gates also said "I don't know" when asked if Biden would make a good President. And Obama said "Never underestimate Joe's ability to f*** things up". Ben Rhodes, Obama’s former deputy national security adviser, said, “in the Situation Room, Biden could be something of an unguided missile”. This is the guy you're contorting yourself to defend? I guess you're just someone who supports the party line no matter what. And you can't bring yourself to admit "your guy" is incompetent.

Honestly, at this point if you support Biden you are either an idiot or you want the United States to be embarrassed and in decline. If you are an idiot, it's probably not your fault. Your parents were probably idiots. If you want the United States to be embarrassed and in decline, then I don't know what to say to you. You put not just the US at risk, you put the entire world at risk. But you cannot look at the facts...ALL the facts, of his presidency so far (and before that really) and find any logical or good reason to support him that includes the US being a greater, stronger country. you can't even look at how he acts and what he says and honestly say he's a "good man".

My view on that is who cares? He's the POTUS NOW and his judgement so far on handling of major issues is spot on. This is exactly why most americans chose him.
