The most anticipated YouTube (re)debut in a generation earlier. The second coming of Anya Culling, after a very average attempt at being a part time youtuber before.
Professional filming and editing, interview style video. Says we'll be following along her training for the year (so maybe some sort of deal with the videographers for that?). Says it's an intro to her, and how she got to where she is in running - although interestingly absolutely no mention of her time at Best Athletics, which surely this period saw her formative running years... Certainly without it - and without Nick Bester's pacing - she wouldn't be the name she is today.
Will transition to an Ironman later in the year, reading into that she's happy being decent club runner and not maxing out her potential in running, and has clocked that T100 will fly her and Joe out to Dubai for a fortnight and wants more cash from that teet. Still think it's a shame but I can see why grinding out for less money to go and run 2:26 or something isn't as appealing.
Some talk about barriers to entry for women in triathlon and her desire to address these, doesn't say what they are or how she'll do that. Strongly suspect part of it is the marketability of women's sports so interesting to see if her presence takes attention and money from legit female athletes, or if she brings some eyeballs with her that bring money. I suspect more the former than the latter. Still think it's a shame but I can see why grinding out for less money to go and run 2:26 or something isn't as appealing.
Really grinds my gears this, clearly just a performative statement with no meaning or substance behind it, which just ends up belittling all the people that are actually involved in the sport at a youth/local/club level who are striving to actually increase women participation.
also really funny when you consider that currently Lucy Charles-Barclay is the only triathlete that non-endurance sports nerds have ever heard of.
Can anyone recommend a good channel for older masters runners? The YouTube space seems to be full of young guns and middle aged runners, but where are the proper 60+ masters?? If anyone knows of any channels, preferably someone who is experienced, such as an England masters runner who still runs sub 20 at almost 65 but doesn't take things too seriously, I'd love to hear your recommendations, oh yes. I'm new to this whole Letrsun shebang so hopefully you're a friendly lot who appreciates users who are no spring chicken.
Welcome to our channel We are Dawn and John, Masters Runners based in Yorkshire, England. On this channel, you will find: 1. Regular updates on our training as we strive to be the best version of ourselves. 2. Regular parkrun...

Donato (poetwithpace) seems up your street fella. Probably the closest match.

American here and we seem to be lacking any decent masters YouTube channels.
like others have said, you have a choice of three.
1) Tim Grose
2) Running Brooms
3) Donato
Of those three you’d have to say that Donato is the only one who exactly fits the criteria as he’s older than the others who I think are in their 50s? Donato I think is closer to 70 and still running sub 17s on occasion. He is also really charming and zany.
Oh and also he got chased by a dog in one video which really upset him. And then a couple of months later got chased by a mysterious man in the dark in the early hours of his morning run. Pretty scary stuff. But yeah; great channel

This has been something of a hot button topic in LC tri over the last few years due to some back-and-forth with slot allocation and separating the mens/womens races for WC events, which has been controversial enough that there's not really been a clear 'majority' decision. Most likely just some low-hanging engagement farming for the optics unless there's some grand plan beyond posting selfies, which frankly nobody has any need for given the depth of the women's field and how good the elite races have been in the last few years, and also that the 'barriers to entry' also largely involve having kids and a job.
That being said, she's not exactly going to be cleaning up at IM if she can't be bothered to put in a solid marathon block, so who knows what the logic is there.

Yeah she's not really improving going to solve women as assumed primary caregivers in western societies and triathlon being a super time intensive sport. Or the fact that women training for solo sports have far more legitimate safety concerns when balancing training times outside work than men do - esp. given that she's not experiencing either to the same extent, being able to chose to train during daylight hours with film crews.
If it's just bringing a few viewers with you great but are the runna hobbyjoggers going to bring extra money for the women competing at the pointy end or just watch anya and say how impressive whatever achievements she does are?
Expect triathlon will fare the same way as her running, 85% commitment until something else shiny comes along. Like has been said before - Bester was pretty pivotal to her running development because she needed someone to almost literally hold her hand through every stage.

Would be lovely to see Bester get some recognition not just for what he did for their career but also the running scene in the UK in general. Sure the likes of Fenton, FOD, Cole, Jake must have learnt a lot from him over the years.
Not sure how many of you here remember the programme ‘This is your life’ hosted by Michael Aspell. But it would be wonderful to bring Michael and the show back for one special episode dedicated to Nick. Imagine the guests from his life you could invite on to pay tribute to him -
Matt Fox,
the guys from the corporate world,
the bloke in Africa who wore Prime X shoes to illegally beat him in a race
the fireman in Valencia
SirPoc
that let’s run poster who said he’d never break 2:20
"Lea Fulcher Master Runner" is an Irish masters (over 50 but not sure his exact age) who puts his training on Strava with semi-regular youtube updates. Not the best produced stuff at all but there's little content in this space (older runners doing shorter distances).
I'm so glad you found my channel, let me introduce myself. I started running at the age of 33 and had natural ability, quickly running 15mins for 5k and 32mins for 10k. However at the age of 36 I stopped running, I experience...
He runs track and shorter road races (and rarely a 10km or XC race). His training is... different. Very low mileage, quite high intensity. Not sure if I buy into it, but he's certain it works for him and the distances he races. It's an interesting watch for as short as his videos are.

RTJ just ran a 14:52 5k 'Tempo' with a group after a 30k steady. Yet on the weekend whilst going for the Japanese parkrun record again he only ran 14:42. Surely this lack of top end speed cant continue. It go on like this can it?
Was thinking parkrun courses aren't generally that quick and you end up weaving through slower runners. But the course looks absolutely perfect, fewer than 100 finishers and weather looked spot on too. There could have been plenty of non parkrunners to get round though.
Maybe if he had someone to chase/share the work with he could have taken another 15secs off the parkrun, we all know he's a self proclaimed carthorse but 14:42 is equivalent to 2:20+ marathon on vdot calculator.
Given his recent drop in training volume, illness etc I'm guessing he's more like 2:16 marathon shape right now, might get that down to 2:14-2:15 for Tokyo in five weeks?
Power of 10 seems to be down so I can’t see his 5k pb, but on Strava it’s that 14:43 park run? Surely not if his tempo was 2 seconds a km slower only?
Can see him going out a lot harder than 2:14/2:15 given he wanted 2:12 in valencia

I don’t think Anya is really relatable on the barriers to women in triathlon- money, work, lions share of childcare or household duties, confidence, time to train and recover… not sure she’s really in the same boat as your average woman in the sport.
