This thread was deleted by a volunteer moderator. I certainly don't want a thread this big deleted so I've restored. THat being said, this thread has served it's purpose. I've closed it to new posts.
We have a new 2024 vaccine thread here. New people don't need to try to wade through 20,000 posts to figure out what is going on.

I live in the Seattle area. I wore a mask once the mandates kicked in, but largely because I would have been unable to conduct any business outside of my home and probably even physically assaulted had I not worn one. All because I needed to play a part in this "ritual" to alleviate the feelings of fear and panic in the majority of people who have been slowly eating and drinking themselves into states of chronic illness for most of their lives who suddenly started caring about their health once death began making the rounds with COVID. Now we know the masks conferred no obvious benefit and it was all the equivalent of a safety blanket for the neurotic amongst us who brave driving their cars everyday (I believe we all have a 1/100 chance of death as Americans from dying in an auto accident), but won't accept the significantly lower risks of dying or being disabled via COVID infection. But in reality they are accepting that risk whether they know it or not because the masks didn't and don't work, they just make them feel better while their chance of contracting was and is what is always would have been otherwise. Pretty bonkers.
The car crash analogy is very off base.
1) Car crashes aren't contagious
2) Driving in a car has an obvious benefit in American society that balances the risk of crash.
3) COVID was killing at ~8x the rate of cars pre-vaccine.
I agree, though, that penalties for poor and reckless driving should be far higher given the mortality risk to the average American.
The latest WhatsApp exchanges show how Mr Hancock and others discussed how to use an announcement about the Kent variant of the virus to scare the public into changing their behaviour.
I think we should fear for the health of the antivaxxers: many are low income, and with stimulus money gone and anti eviction programs expiring, mental illness, Inflation to be issue for quite awhile will be making affordability of just basics all the more difficult. Meanwhile the ruling class and financially educated were able to take advantage of the low interest rate environment while scamming the vulnerable. That’s the real fear. The pandemic contributed to booming asset prices and further separation of the classes.
Continue on with your anti vax rhetoric..oh virtuous one!
Actually, I have been vaccinated three times. I don't think I'd do it again though with what we now know and are continuing to find out. A good chunk of the past year has been reconciling with the fact that I believe I have been lied to and deceived by the very people purported to be the most objective and discerning amongst us as the people in the scientific community are lauded to be. I am what I like to refer to as a COVID moderate. I thought it was a serious situation that required reasonable precautions, but also different kinds of bravery and sacrifice from different people such as overweight and obese people finally doing something positive for their health so reduce the collective burden on the health care system, young people socializing in something resembling a bubble, that kind of thing. Sadly, what could have been a transformative opportunity for public health was mismanaged as the guidance was tailored based on the risk profile of the lowest common denominator, one of the greatest tragedies of a collective one size fits all policy of any kind.
Things like the masks were clearly just hygiene theater and akin to safety blankets for the panicked masses. These expedited pharmacological interventions were clearly less safe than advertised and there is a conspicuously loud silence by the authorities on excess deaths that they're now attributing to COVID, even on the rare occasion mainstream news outlets do mention it, but have no empirical basis for that claim. But now that we have the benefit of hindsight, I think it is clear that this crisis was mismanaged by ideologically driven and opportunistic people at every turn.
That’s actually a pretty dang good post and commendable that you can do some introspection and objectively feel like perhaps everything isn’t as it was purported to be. But you especially captured the essence of it all, of why American medicine can ultimately never be socialized with the lowest common denominator comment, and, yet, what we are always shackled by. The negligence isn’t merely those who opted, as low risk people, not to get these particular vaccines. The negligence is a far greater societal problem. The lack of accountability is not an “anti-vax” issue.

It's hilarious that people are running around pretending like there is some secret about vaccines that the 'powers that be' are not telling us.
Where is the evidence?
Clotting with J&J? Government revealed it.
Myocarditis with mRNA: communicated by pharma and government
Changes in vaccine efficacy against new strains: discovered and communicated by academia and public health institutions.
You dudes are patting each other on the back for what? Listening to public health communications from establishment sources? Not very radical or contrarian.
Oh wait, the quoted OP is also claiming that there are apparently thousands of vaccine deaths that... nobody can provide evidence for. But you just believe it? Embarrassingly motivated reasoning. We all want to feel special, like we know something others don't, but let's try not to lose all rationality here, fellas.

Bodies piling up; the virus always surging, stalking, raging; hospitals overwhelmed; 24/7 coverage with numbers of alleged cases and alleged Covid deaths streaming at the bottom of our screens; super spreader events, the vilification of anyone asking questions.

Are you sure you fully understand the way death certificates work? It doesn’t look like it.
Dan, you gonna post an article from early 2021 again?
Nah. Not much point in me continuing to post on this thread. It's been 3 years. March 10, 2020 was the day the state of emergency was declared in Massachusetts. Every time I was faced with a Covid related decision over those 3 years, I made the correct choice for myself. 100% accuracy. "Batting a thousand" as they say in baseball.

Yeah, I was more commenting on his thoughts about whether he made the correct decision for himself and his comment about catering to the lowest common denominator, who won’t help themselves. I’m sorry Harambe, I’ve used my microbiology/immunology training and intuition to stay away from these LNP-mRNA vectors, and it was the right call for me. You will never convince me that I don’t have broader and more durable immunity than yourself without any adverse consequences, but you keep taking your matched strain boosters. At your probable age in the 20s and relatively good health, I think it’s stupid. I’m glad I provoke you so though.

Sounds like you did your own research.
You probably missed this the first time. Here it is again.
************ "Emphasize perceived risks from COVID-19."
"This strategy's a little more controversial, but fear lies at the heart of decisions about vaccination. Making people feel at risk from COVID-19 would certainly provide greater motivation to seek out the bivalent booster."
Ok, so now you are essentially libeling her. Gandhi was never “anti-vax.” She has always been a vax proponent. What she simply said was if you were naturally infected, you had broad and durable immunity equivalent to or better than the vax, unless… wait for it… you were a high risk person, in which case she advocated for the vax. Exactly right. And I don’t think too many immunologists would argue against that position, except, you know, “molecular biologists” such as yourself. You like to rewrite history, just like you were one of the first lab leak proponents. Laughable. Comical.
It's not libel to say her uninformed and attention seeking ideas would have caused 100k+ more American deaths. Aren't we glad nobody listened to her but Twitter keyboard warriors.
Anyone who was against the vax for a majority of the population is 'anti-vax' and very bad at math. That's all there is to it!
Well trained immunologists and molecular biologists have the quantitative ability to look at the reams of data supporting the vax and agree that everyone should get it. People like Ghandi and yourself prefer to following their 'feelings' and 'bias.' Embarrassing!
You are saying she’s uninformed and attention seeking? Just wow bro. You said you have deep pockets from your crypto trading, yes? It’s libel bro. Unbelievable. Wow. Ok.
This is rich coming from you. You've been trying for years to scare people about the vaccine. Do you think posting random people who died and then you claim (w/o) evidence it was "teh Vaxxx?, teh big Pharma" isn't about fear.
And newsflash, dipwad. A contagious disease is scary to a lot of people (at least until we understand it). Of course an ignorant old crust like you who is too stupid to know what he doesn't know just sits around posting memes all day.

wow you know less about the law than you do about science. You going to "sue"??? lol

Next time I hear about the International Olympic Committee, I'll call them the ignorant old crusts.

Imagine anything so diabolical, sinister and evil even being briefly discussed as a possibility.
"Ex-minister James Bethell said the Government had to start making policy while very little was known about the disease, with one idea of asking the public to ‘exterminate all the cats in Britain’ ".

Surprised you find this repugnant DanM. Antivaxxers essentially were advocating and cheerleading for mass death and suffering by spreading antivaxxer propaganda when covid was killing 10x the rate a bad flu season would.
I missed this, but on Tuesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray spoke publicly for the first time on the bureau’s assessment that the COVID-19 virus “most likely” originated from a potential lab incident in Wuhan, China. “The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan,” he said.
