Bummer, man. I'm sorry about this environmental catastrophe that your community has suffered. Hopefully it gets more attention and resources to mitigate the harmful effects of toxic contamination in your community and state. I've spent some time in Ohio for work and I've enjoyed the people I have met there. Although I will say, and as you have exhibited, the "heartland" chip so many of you wear on your shoulder doesn't make you any better or worse than any other American, or heck, any other nationality for that matter. Poor in Tacoma or Federal Way in Washington State isn't any more dignified or sympathetic than poor in the "heartland".

Actually, I have been vaccinated three times. I don't think I'd do it again though with what we now know and are continuing to find out. A good chunk of the past year has been reconciling with the fact that I believe I have been lied to and deceived by the very people purported to be the most objective and discerning amongst us as the people in the scientific community are lauded to be. I am what I like to refer to as a COVID moderate. I thought it was a serious situation that required reasonable precautions, but also different kinds of bravery and sacrifice from different people such as overweight and obese people finally doing something positive for their health so reduce the collective burden on the health care system, young people socializing in something resembling a bubble, that kind of thing. Sadly, what could have been a transformative opportunity for public health was mismanaged as the guidance was tailored based on the risk profile of the lowest common denominator, one of the greatest tragedies of a collective one size fits all policy of any kind.
Things like the masks were clearly just hygiene theater and akin to safety blankets for the panicked masses. These expedited pharmacological interventions were clearly less safe than advertised and there is a conspicuously loud silence by the authorities on excess deaths that they're now attributing to COVID, even on the rare occasion mainstream news outlets do mention it, but have no empirical basis for that claim. But now that we have the benefit of hindsight, I think it is clear that this crisis was mismanaged by ideologically driven and opportunistic people at every turn.

Which doctors? Really it’s mistrust in medicine, probably something bad happened to the antivax long before 2020, perhaps surprise medical billing resulted in long periods of unpaid medical bills. If they weren’t well served by our system, the defensive mechanism is one of medical system mistrust, just a natural reaction
I don’t understand how certain antivaxxers think that suddenly boatloads of others are coming on board to with them unless they frequent whack job websites on the regular. There’s basically some 17k crazies, couple bloggers and influencers on social media, and that’s it. I know! I visited China way back in 2010 and everyone was wearing masks! Today in year 2023 I talk to people on video calls working in company in Thailand and everyone wears masks indoors at desks. Only in United States is there so much misinformation and medical mistrust. anti vax have never traveled much at all outside USA though

Ok, so now you are essentially libeling her. Gandhi was never “anti-vax.” She has always been a vax proponent. What she simply said was if you were naturally infected, you had broad and durable immunity equivalent to or better than the vax, unless… wait for it… you were a high risk person, in which case she advocated for the vax. Exactly right. And I don’t think too many immunologists would argue against that position, except, you know, “molecular biologists” such as yourself.
