As a last resort ego lift - trump will make himself believe that thousands are dying from COVID just to make him look bad... and some still believe he isn't dangerous.

yeah and everyone who gets his news from Fox lives in the same fantasy world and will vote accordingly, furious at the NYT and WaPo for lying and making stuff up about Trump.

I really can't stand FOX, but I try to view like other enterprises that do a disservice to humanity and even contribute or cause deaths. They are a typical profit-driven business that values $ above all else, part of the consumerist machine. What angers me more is the ignorance of the population, much of it willful. People are free to check trump's tweets for themselves, compare news networks, check out actually news wires like Reuters and AP, do some Googling and find all sorts of forums to ask questions. In the end, the bigger factor is that anxiety and fear denominator that transforms them into a magnet for FOX. FOX simply exploits this. Trump found a way to inject his bs in people's lives, and FOX has been a perfect vehicle and willing partner for that. People need to look in the mirror and ask themselves if this is what they stand for. The situation is such that I think they are running low on justifications. Even 40% support should be considered an unacceptable number for a first world seemingly educated country.

I mostly agree with you on this,

Two comment/observations:

1) Yes, businesses are trying to make money. But saying that some company "values $ above all else" seems like a bit of cheap shot. Virtually every company "values $ above all else", even the ones who promote themselves as saintly enterprises founded to "do good."

Fox is serving a market and making money within that market. They are as "evil" as the cigarette companies. Which is very, very evil. But at the same time, it is completely inevitable that some company would attempt to make a lot of money serving that market. That is happens to be Fox is immaterial. That such an organization would arise is pretty much inevitable given the system that we work within.

" Yes, people could. But realistically, the people who do this are a vanishingly small minority. This is true of the Left as well as the Right.

People plop down, expect to be entertained, need to be consoled, and think that they are educated. That's just the way it is. We live in an idiocracy. This too is a cheap shot, I know. But I believe it to be true. Solutions? That's tough. I defer to the smart folks on here for that - Citizen Runner, agip and Racket.

We can agree that "black" is not an offensive word, but it would have been equally as contemptible if he had said "I'm done arguing with this black." What's disgusting about it is his tone and his using of a racial identifier to discredit the interviewer.

I put this out there because Stone is a known racist who thinks it’s cute to display it in a not so subtle and mocking way. An unhinged racist.

His mumbling comment was racist.

The key word itself is not a racial slur.

The headline was written in a way to generate clicks looking for the true n word slur, which he did not say.

It’s a dishonest headline.

I’d rather they written “Roger Stone makes racist comment under breath”.

Negro is a Spanish word for the color black. Blacks as a group were called negroes. The word should be pronounced NE (as in NEver) GROH (not like GROW which makes the O more harsh in tone). Americans devolved it into the "American" way of saying Negro (KNEE-GROW) (no longer connected to the Spanish original, being more harsh) which then devolved into the N*word (with the 'gg'). So, that is why the word his considered offensive. It is about the way it came to be used and the way it was said.

I don't think this is so cut and dried. I'm not sure that because it's on your wife's birth certificate that that means it isn't currently considered a slur. I think this is out for debate, and I'm not sure where I would land, actually. Stone definitely was being condescending at least, but perhaps pejorative at worst. I know I wouldn't describe someone as that word he used under any circumstances. I'm sure some would view it as a slur.

Good clarification - fatality rate is a pretty useless measure for COVID since the number of cases is actually unknown (should include not just positive tests, but all infections). 8th worst mortality rate is horrendous.
