One interesting comment I saw - It's been argued that trump hates being POTUS but has to so he won't be investigated. But now this case seems to say that even if he is president he can be subpoenaed and investigated. So it's a reason for him to quit and not run for reelection.
The flip side is that a sitting President won't/can't be indicted. As soon as he leaves office, there's a risk that the Manhattan DA indicts him. That's motivation for him to stay in office as long as possible.

I could be wrong, but personally I think everyone is going to be so sick of it all that we'll just move on and Trump will fade into obscurity like other failed presidents. No one pursued Franklin Pierce to the ends of the earth for basically allowing the Civil War.

Please stop posting on this thread. Aside from cluttering it up, you haven't won any arguments and pretending that you're doing it all in good fun is laughable. You're acting like a whiny brat; Trump would be proud of you.

Yes he has gotten away with much so far, but only because he was operating in more obscure and confined situations, where throwing some weight around and buying off the press was enough. Being POTUS has exposed him much more than he could handle, it amounts to him getting too close to the sun. He probably knows he's toast when he leaves the office. The desperation level to continue benefiting from being above-the-law has never been higher. He WILL try to cheat whatever way possible to stay away from real legal danger. If he can pull off winning he may be able to hose down all the fire before he leaves in 2024... it's his only chance.

To comment further, there just isn't enough competitiveness in a 2-party system. It has created systemic complacency and allowed for infinite tactics for the parties to actually not serve the public. They need to fight for their jobs and the privilege to continue serving, and not just sit back waiting for the party in power to inevitably fail without their support.
I absolutely agree, although I would argue the issues run even deeper, stemming from the forced dichotomy that a two-party system demands. Those on the right can demonize anything from the left by brushing it off as "socialism", when in reality there are principles that would be beneficial for the US (i.e. single payer healthcare) that would not turn the government into a socialist regime. On the other hand, there are principles of conservatism, namely low tax rates, that are hugely beneficial for a capitalist society at all levels. The idea that we must choose between one or the other. conservatism and liberalism, is hugely detrimental, when in reality a better system would draw principles from both.
Revenue in should match spending out. A platform based on low taxes is disingenuous (though, obviously effective). Both GOP and Dems have been spending money like it is going out of style for decades. The primary difference has been that Dems suggest that spending should be paid for (at least they make a perfunctory effort in this direction) while the GOP has for decades preyed upon the stupidity and self-centeredness of the average American by constantly pushing for lower taxes (mostly for the rich) thereby effectively saying that our grandchildren should be the ones paying for our largess.
If there was a true fiscally conservative party I would be all for them (all else being equal). But the GOP sure as heck isn't it. And conservatism should be far more about balancing the budget than about low taxes.

In the very next post after I made my "All" statement, I said that there probably were some Evangelical churches that were not independent.
I knew very well that I should not have made an unqualified statement. Strangely, you wouldn't let it go and tried to proclaim that you won the whole argument because I should have used a qualifier like "typically".
My point remains that your ideas about what evangelicals should do are laughable. You made those suggestions because you come from a very different tradition and you don't have any idea how most evangelical churches operate.
1) If there are some Evangelicals who do not like how they are viewed because many other Evangelicals have sullied that name, then they should consider getting a group of like-minded people together and form a new church or network of churches (that's precisely why there are so many different ones now -- someone didn't like what was going on and formed a new order). Or, they should leave their church and join one that isn't considered an Evangelical church. Pretending that all Evangelicals are good people or even that most are, is not a proper strategy.
2) You are incorrect about my knowledge of Evangelicals. Nothing you have said about them is news to me.
3) Yes, you did say that "probably there are...". First of all, you thought "probably". I KNEW there were, so no probably about it. Secondly, you later restated your initial comment that ALL Evangelical churches were independent, thus reneging on your admittance of wrongness...as I stated earlier.
4) You are making a huge incorrect assumption that because I grew up in a Methodist tradition that I am not familiar with Evangelicals. Bogus. While I am no longer a "believer", I have always had a healthy interest in religious people, know many Evangelical Christians very well...ONE of whom I know to be a good person. All the others have serious flaws, and some of them are even bad people including a guy I worked with for a long time. When you are as involved in any church as much and as long as I have been, you run into all kinds of flavors of Christianity. I've been yelled at by Evangelical preachers on two college campuses that I was going to go to hell just for walking on by. I've been told by a self-described Evangelical that I was going to go to hell because I didn't believe my Jewish friend was going to go to hell. I know Evangelicals who speak in tongues, which is nonsense. But, the only thing that really matters is that you told me I didn't know what I was talking about while you were stating again that ALL Evangelical churches were independent. Nope. That is wrong. I am right. You are wrong.
You do not know what you think you know. Your church filled with Evangelicals might very well be filled with good well-meaning people. The ONE person I know well who is a very liberal Evangelical and who is a very good person, says that about her church, and I have no reason to disbelieve her. You may have a similar church. Good for you if you do. Most Evangelicals need to clean up their act as is evidenced by the majority of them still supporting the most sinful US President in our nation's history.
I am getting tired of this discussion, but I WILL have the last word. Expect shorter responses from me if you decide to continue trying to convince yourself that you were somehow right about something.
I was right about all of it.
Again, you will never convince anyone that a wayward Methodist understands Evangelical Christians better than a lifetime Evangelical Christian. Not gonna happen.
But you can go on and live in your world where you think you are right about this. Live in your world where you think being a preacher's kid makes you an expert on all things religious. Live in your world where you think that you were right about the 2016 election.
We all know that you are Flagpole and you will have the last word. So go ahead.
So concerning the two SCOTUS decisions about Tiny's taxes, the thing that interests me is that both of Tiny's appointees ruled against him in both cases. It gives me some hope for the near future when we might need an independent court more than ever.
That was very good, but this is what happens when all trumpster and conservative arguments have been been completely destroyed, liberals turn on themselves. This is what I find when I return to the site. The conservatives are no longer any fun to beat up on because they have nothing so we turn on ourselves. There is no longer any denying covid. Texas, Arizona and Florida have had skyrocketing hospitalizations so the deniers have nothing. Trump has become one of the most hated presidents and he is far behind Biden. Trump's international policies have been total failure. All allies don't respect us and well Trump claim for the Nobel Peace Prize is well funny to even think about. The economy is in the tube. And how many people that know Trump well or worked for him and exposed Trump for the disaster he has been. There is no denying Trump's presidency has been a sad joke. Liberals like Flagpole and Fats turn on each other. There are no meaningful conservative voices on this site to bother with.

Fat Hurts and Flagpole have done this dance before. It has nothing to do with Trump imploding or the Trumpettes on this thread shriveling. It's just their personalities.
Anyone who has debated anything with those two knows how such an exchange will go, even before it really gets started.

I didn't turn on Fat Hurts. He is right about most things most of the time, and I actually think he's arguably the best person other than me on this thread. He was just really wrong here, so he needed some learnin'. What did he learn from me? That there are a TON of Evangelical Christian churches in the US (and around the world for that matter) that DO have a hierarchy, that NO, they are not all independent.
What will the rest of you learn from me in the future? Well, if you say something that is nonsense and I happen to know about that subject, you will learn from me. If you reject that learning, you will hear from me again. In the end, Fat Hurts DID learn this from me during this discussion, so he is a more knowledgeable person, a more knowledgeable Evangelical Christian because of it.
