Many have wondered what the GOP and Dem Party will be like post trump. Will there be a realignment? What happens to the center right? I think the Lincoln Project wants to run candidates.

The Lincoln Project and Mitt Romney are my beacons of hope in modern day conservatism. If the sensible conservatives can instigate a hard fork in the Republican party, this may open the door for conversations about our broken two-party system. The idea of two prominent ideologies splitting America almost 50/50 is entirely social engineering fabrication. Most of the issues plaguing the country right now boil down to party ideology.

You have said many things, and I don't plan to go back. If you want to make a point, paste here where you said you were wrong about anything. In the very next post after I made my "All" statement, I said that there probably were some Evangelical churches that were not independent.

I knew very well that I should not have made an unqualified statement. Strangely, you wouldn't let it go and tried to proclaim that you won the whole argument because I should have used a qualifier like "typically".

My point remains that your ideas about what evangelicals should do are laughable. You made those suggestions because you come from a very different tradition and you don't have any idea how most evangelical churches operate.

Naturally there should be room for at least 3 parties - right, moderate and left. Lincoln project folks (I'll call them the RINOs for now) could run away with 15-20% of the GOP base for starters and probably 5% of Dems. Long term success may depend on how much to the left the Dem party shifts, as older voters may not be willing to go along with more progressive ideas. Anyway, trump has opened up an opportunity to challenge the 2-party system, as he's pretty much broken the traditional conservative principle model. While I recognize a third party for moderate conservatives may fracture some of the Dem party, I think it would be great for our system and would provide yet another check that seems is desperately needed. So when the AOC and Ted Cruz types (no I'm not comparing them) start to push for new ideas, their parties need to convince the moderates to play along in order to progress with their agenda.

To comment further, there just isn't enough competitiveness in a 2-party system. It has created systemic complacency and allowed for infinite tactics for the parties to actually not serve the public. They need to fight for their jobs and the privilege to continue serving, and not just sit back waiting for the party in power to inevitably fail without their support.

Based on some GOP insiders, there is no indication of any Rs outside of Lincoln project folks abandoning trump. They pretty much think they are stuck because allegiance to trump is still such a strong issue with their constituents, so they are scared to death of even looking like they may deviate... this is happening even as some are polling poorly against challengers. It's not even part of the conversation. Forget about pregnancy, it's too late, they already had the baby and it has already started crawling around breaking stuff... stuck with agent orange until the end.

This is really awful news for trump, awful. It was not even close, a 7-2 SC vote. Manhattan DA is now going to have a lot of fun with his records.

After Republican primary season is over (which is rolling, but starting to close up), Rs will be freer to break from trump if they need to.

Apparently since the SC primary on June 9 Graham has gone against spanks something like 5 times.

The NH guvnor is skipping the trump rally in his state this week.

Many other examples. Politicians know in their gut when they need to run away from losing people like trump.

1) If there are some Evangelicals who do not like how they are viewed because many other Evangelicals have sullied that name, then they should consider getting a group of like-minded people together and form a new church or network of churches (that's precisely why there are so many different ones now -- someone didn't like what was going on and formed a new order). Or, they should leave their church and join one that isn't considered an Evangelical church. Pretending that all Evangelicals are good people or even that most are, is not a proper strategy.

2) You are incorrect about my knowledge of Evangelicals. Nothing you have said about them is news to me.

3) Yes, you did say that "probably there are...". First of all, you thought "probably". I KNEW there were, so no probably about it. Secondly, you later restated your initial comment that ALL Evangelical churches were independent, thus reneging on your admittance of wrongness...as I stated earlier.

4) You are making a huge incorrect assumption that because I grew up in a Methodist tradition that I am not familiar with Evangelicals. Bogus. While I am no longer a "believer", I have always had a healthy interest in religious people, know many Evangelical Christians very well...ONE of whom I know to be a good person. All the others have serious flaws, and some of them are even bad people including a guy I worked with for a long time. When you are as involved in any church as much and as long as I have been, you run into all kinds of flavors of Christianity. I've been yelled at by Evangelical preachers on two college campuses that I was going to go to hell just for walking on by. I've been told by a self-described Evangelical that I was going to go to hell because I didn't believe my Jewish friend was going to go to hell. I know Evangelicals who speak in tongues, which is nonsense. But, the only thing that really matters is that you told me I didn't know what I was talking about while you were stating again that ALL Evangelical churches were independent. Nope. That is wrong. I am right. You are wrong.

You do not know what you think you know. Your church filled with Evangelicals might very well be filled with good well-meaning people. The ONE person I know well who is a very liberal Evangelical and who is a very good person, says that about her church, and I have no reason to disbelieve her. You may have a similar church. Good for you if you do. Most Evangelicals need to clean up their act as is evidenced by the majority of them still supporting the most sinful US President in our nation's history.
