New Balance not exactly covering themselves in glory having dropped Andy Butchart right before his Valencia national record !
Contract was up for renewal, he’s 34, had a good run from them but to that date, hadn’t done anything for years, that’s business.
Butchy’s run at Valencia was incredible but let’s be honest, is that specific performance going to move the needle on shoe sales for NB? I can’t imagine it will.
Whereas using his contract money and investment elsewhere might hold a higher probability.

He has more of a presence and certainly more character than any of the remaining runners on that Manchester team - so yeah, he is more likely to shift shoes than West or Nuttall.
Good to see Bester absolutely running himself into the ground in Kenya and claiming that he's being "sensible" while doing so.
Goes to Kenya, then moans about metrics like V02 dropping. Absolute melt.
I'm looking forward to the end of trip cringe post about donating trainers to people there, he has no shame. And I have no idea why other people on the trip would fund his trip. I doubt there is a lot of coaching going on by him
also wondering now that you guys brought it up. if he has no real job then...how tf is he doing nothing but running semi-elite and youtubing lol. the guy cannot be making much $ off his videos or any 'sponsors'.
i have to imagine he has family money or is a trust funder - either his own parents or his in-laws...because otherwise how is this guy doing nothing and bringing in no income from a job and seemingly waddling around all day to just train and post videos?
i'm envious but definitely lean towards him mooching off family money. who knows if that's the case. if it is, i find that pretty lame. but to each their own and it's not his fault he was born rich or married into money (if either are the case)
100% not a trust funder. Where he is from is not wealthy nor expensive to stay. Proper down to earth guy - hopefully he can gain fastest ginger YouTuber title!
I like Ryan, seems a nice lad but there's no way I'm supporting him over Jake RTJ for fastest ginger youtuber. Jakes channel is at least 7 times more entertaining than Ryans

I can’t believe we’re discussing James West, Hannah Nuttall and Butchart and their relevance to NB’s financial impact.

Been aatching him on Strava over the last 18 months and it’s absolutely no surprise that he hasn’t improved his marathon time. He runs his track workouts strong and throws down fast interval times, but then he signs up to so many different races/ experiences and overcooks himself before his marathon even comes around. You can only go to the well so many times in a period before it negatively affects you, and he seems to make this mistake time and time again and is doing it again by going to Africa and potentially doing a xc race
He really needs to learn to be patient and save himself for the odd tune up before a marathon, but I guess that’s the issue with being a content creator, he feels the need to enter all these races for content
Brett & Andy slagging off the Norwegian Singles Approach on their latest podcast! Also calling it the new trendy way of thinking.
Hope SirPoc wasn’t listening!
Not sure NSA is that trendy tbh. The proper instagrammy, beautiful looking, influencer, type runners like Fenton, Fashion Jogger, Donato, Gabriel, DentalAthlete, Runna crew don’t use it. That’s for sure.
Alfie Manthorpe got asked on his instagram story yesterday when his marathon debut is, and he put the eyes emoji with a countdown that ended on 26th April, so looks like he's running London. Elite or champs? He ran quicker than Alex Yee at the Valencia half...

The irony is all these extra trips to Kenya and XC races will probably net him fewer views than a parkrun "Last to first" challenge video at his local Battersea loop. If ran at 95% of max effort he'd be way less fried in his build ups too.

Do you know at what point in the podcast the NSA chat happens? 2hours 23mins is a long time to listen to the whole thing!

I sometimes hate-listen to this podcast on long-runs. Brett is infuriatingly misinformed at times, and imparts his wisdom onto Andy who really neither knows nor cares about any of the technical aspects of running. I listened to this one the other day and if I recall correctly, Brett cites Sirpocs "2:34" marathon as proof that Norwegian singles works, but he just hates "rules".

It's quite early on, if you put it on 2x you should get to it. I wouldn't say they necessarily slag it off, more so explain why they believe it isn't for them. I thought it was reasonably balanced.

Of course there's no coaching going on. He needs his office, aka the Battersea toilet, to run his 'coaching' business out of.

Both Andy and Brett race too much, generally run their easy runs to fast and don't really follow a structured plan. They're probably ideal candidates for NSM.
Andy throws in 120k weeks and ends up running a 3:20 marathon. Whatever he is doing isn't really working so he should probably be looking at other ways.
Neither comes across as the brightest people on the planet generally.

Both likeable though which is more than you can say about some YouTubers. Cough * Fenton, FilmMyRun, Truett *Cough.
