16:05 at Bowdoin is flying. 15:50 at NXR NE was 7th at NXN, 15:53 guy was 28. CBA would sign up up for 16:05 5th man all day.
I completely understand how INSANE a 5th man running 16:05 at bowdin is. I was proving the point that if they want to compete with Herriman, they would need be around there. Herriman late in the season is going to have 5 guys running mid-high 180's SR.
Last year at the bowdin classic, CBA went:
15:50 15:54 16:16 16:18 16:19
They came in 6th at nationals and Herriman is better this year. I know how insane it sounds, but i think CBA will need to put up the best performance in northeast XC history to be able to compete with them. I'm not talking about a top 10 or even top 5 finish.
Bowdin runs about 15-20 seconds slower than Glendoveer. Last year Herriman ran a 15:50 team average on Glendoveer and they are BETTER this year.
something I should point out is that the nxn course was a mudfest last year. Times were much slower. It's hard to compare how a 15:50 last year by herriman would be at a course like boudwin.
Herriman went 14:02 average at woodbridge in 2024. That's around 20 seconds average better than their 2023 team time but the course in 2023 was for wheeled at 3.02.
Milesplit/Coros posts a good summary over the national landscape at this point in the season.
You are looking at last year all wrong. Herriman wasn't even the best in their state until NXN. They ran really well at NXN, really well. Let's not pretend it was any different than that. It is hard to judge a HS team by NXN. AF was #1 most of the year. They ran great at NXN. Herriman ran better. Was CBA the 6th best team in the USA at NXN, yes. Were they 6th all year, probably not. Niwot wasn't the 5th best team until NXN either. It's hard to win if you aren't one of the great teams, but it is also tough to win if you are one of the great teams.
It seems like Herriman is better this year, but it is September. They might get even better, they might not. It looks like it is possibly a 3 team race with Niwot, CBA, Herriman right now. We have not seen CBA or Niwot really race but signs are pointing to them being incredibly good. All that could change and other teams could jump in. We'll see.

Utah had the #1 and #2 teams in the nation. No team ran their absolute best at NXN. Please stop making excuses for CBA. They have an overinflated ego and rankings every year because they have no competition in their region.

"overinflated ego" Wtf are you talking about. Go look at last years Manhattan times.
let's just stop talking about herriman vs cba in this thread. Keep the thread focused on the present and team race results. The past is over. The winners were decided as of last year, this year is a new year. Thanks!

His post had to do with Herriman, not CBA.

This is a thread about nxn, these are the best two teams this year. Are we suppose to talk about 3-20?

So which kid on CBA had an over inflated ego and where is the quote showing that. You're attacking the character of high schoolers on an internet forum with no proof because its a lie.
Let’s keep the conversation respectful and avoid assumptions or attacks. My comment about an "overinflated ego" was more about the perception of team rankings, not about individual athletes' character. I agree with trunner*—let’s focus on the current season.

its a bunch of kids that go to an elitist boys-only prep school that costs more than some college's tuition. Its safe to say a few of them have a bit of an ego. The school offers sailing and crew as sports for christs sake. You dont need much more to fill in the madlibs of who these kids are.
I’m over here looking at Niwot’s math. They are probably the best team in the country right now. Herriman is right with them. Herriman won last year without their 4:02 miler scoring. They will be tough to beat, but if anyone will do it, it will be Niwot.
everyone else is fighting for the final spot on the podium. Nobody is really very close to the top 2.

Good point! Cheyenne is avoiding Twilight and going to Portland, makes me think they are not going to be much of a contender after all. Especially when Coronado new transfer comes online, they will punching 3-4 in the top results, diluting the team placings, and probably pushing Cheyenne down a couple places and Niwot will have to work now.
Is Jesuit LA really above Southlake Carroll or is it another example of running in a race with higher speed ratings?? Southlake is one of the favorites to podium at nxn.

If I remember correctly, none of the top 3 South teams, Vandegrift, Jesuit LA, Southlake Carroll, have gone head to head so far.
I think we'd have to see a head to head before we could call anything, because while on paper the Carroll boys should podium/top 5 at NXN, I really do think that Vandegrift and Jesuit are legit teams in their own right.
I could easily see the speed ratings order being correct, or the opposite order being right, or anywhere in between.
