Yes, and the single most important position by far is QB, and it ain't even close. No position has as much impact - positive or negative - as QB. See the Bucs as they went from Winston to Brady.
Another demoralizing loss for Wilson and the Broncos. They lost at home to a team that was 3-11. Wilson got outplayed by Bailey Zappe, someone who was a practice squad player in September of this year. And Wilson took 5 more sacks, bringing his season total to 45 and putting him on pace for back to back seasons with 50+ sacks.
The first and last offensive series for the Broncos tell the story of their season. On the very first play of the game, the Broncos defense got a turnover which gave Wilson and the offense 1st and goal from the 6. They came away with 0 points.
With less than 3 minutes remaining in a tie game, the defense came up big again. They got a crucial 3 and out, and then a bad punt by the opposing team put the Broncos in an advantageous situation: Starting field position at their 39 yard line, with 1:42 on the clock and only needing a field goal to win. Poor Wilson couldn’t even get a first down.
Yet another game in which the Broncos had great opportunities to win but Wilson couldn’t get it done.
R Wilson is playing well this season but it is all relative. Think about what Seattle Seahawks got out of R Wilson on rookie contract as a 3rd round qb.
The Broncos will bench Russell Wilson in their Week 17 game against the Chargers in a move that increases their financial flexibility this upcoming offseason, sources told ESPN.
That great passer rating wasn't enough to keep Jarrett Stidham at bay. Only guys that paid attention to football back when guys wore leather helmets think it has any relevance today.
Wilson's five-year, $242.6 million contract signed in 2022 carries plenty of potential salary cap pain if Wilson isn't behind center in 2024, but coach Sean Payton has been open about his displeasure with the offense.
While this is kind of sad (I too was once a Russell Wilson fan, still like him well enough I guess), this is on the Broncos GM. When that trade was made, I was laughing that they were trying to outdo the Vikings' debacle re: Herschel Walker from Dallas trade.
Worst 3 trades/signings in history (re: overpaying/mortgaging a franchise's future for a once-great star) (not in any particular order):
*Minnesota trades for Herschel Walker from Cowboys *Denver trades for Russ Wilson from Seahawks *Cleveland overpays for DeShaun Rapist from Houston
Yep. Looks like the coach didn’t like the Broncos being 20th in the league on third down (36.7%), 31st in goal-to-go situations (53.6%) and 25th in passing (187.5 yards per game).
This debate is just like Wilson’s time as a starter in Denver: over.
Denver is benching its $242 million quarterback. The decision is a tipping-point moment for a franchise that bet big on a blockbuster trade and lost—and it raises major questions for the future.
You know, I actually like to read what Deno writes. But, I do believe Wilson just simply couldn’t grasp the offense, and he just doesn’t move like he used to. He’s too short too.
We can all talk about how much Wilson is getting paid, but the truth is Wilson likely wouldn’t be starting in Denver next season even if he was making half of his scheduled paycheck.

Russell will be 34 in November. He is a diva. Russell relies much on his mobility. He is not the same QB he was and I agree he was great, certainly top 5 for a decade. Not anymore. Maybe he will have a a season or two of rejuvenation in Denver but after seeing the $ Kyler Murray got Russ will want more and it will likely not be a happy marriage when the honeymoon is over.
Well somebody could see this coming coming over a year ago.

I would be unwilling to give up on Russell Wilson yet. I can see that his skills have declined but I believe he can still be a top-15 quarterback. The big question is whether a team wants him enough to put the appropriate players around him. I think expecting him to adjust to a new scheme is too much. He needs a situation where a team goes all-in on him as he stands, sort of like what Denver did with noodle-arm Manning or maybe Tampa Bay with Tom Brady. Who that team might be, I can't say. I could see him on the Vikings, maybe. I'd say Cleveland would be an excellent fit (strong defense, good receivers), but it seems unlikely they'd move on from Watson. What about a Watson for Wilson trade? That would be something.

Neither team would do that. It's rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Denver fans want to ride Wilson out of town on a rail. If they traded for Watson, Bronco fans would be apoplectic.
