US 7 day rolling average of daily deaths fell again, this time a substantial amount. Down to 821.
World 7 day rolling average of deaths rose again, this time by a substantial amount. Up to 4,444.
Both numbers have been moving consistently in that direction for weeks.
Big question is when/if the surge in hospitalizations in the American South and West will start causing deaths. So far, not so much. Maybe nursing homes are being protected better? Or maybe it's still early.
Worldwide daily counts of new cases hitting sharply new highs. Not sure how much of that is due to more testing.
In the US daily counts of new cases are stable or falling very slightly.
No changes in the rankings of nations or US states that I am tracking.

1. Please share your source for this claim that a significant number of people are refusing to return to work.
2. These people know their unemployment is going to run out. Are you suggesting they are exchanging long term employment for a few more weeks or months of unemployment pay?
I am not in the financial position to want to do something like this, but I know for sure that many people are trying to stay on unemployment as long as they can instead of just going back to work. There are two main reasons for this:
1) Money. If they can make more doing nothing, they will do so. Many of these people are in the service industry, and when their unemployment runs out, they can go find a job super easily, assuming things are still continuing to open and stay open.
2) Childcare. If they have a little one at home, this just extends the time they don't need to pay for child care (if they can even find it).
Not sure if this is being presented as a political issue or not, but I don't think it is one. Just a reality of the current situation for working-class people.
There is a third reason some people are taking unemployment instead of going back to work...
...they are concerned about getting coronavirus. That is a legitimate concern.

India, Pakistan, Brazil and strangely Mexico conducted hardly any tests until a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if we can look back at their test rate but it was extremely low, like literally 100x lower than the USA and Europe. The test rates are still very low but they have increased about 10x now, so I imagine that is the cause of most of the increase.

Valid points- yeah was going to mention CV. I'm split on that first point. The couple of people I've met in Florida that became unemployed, plus one of my siblings are happy to be getting a relatively large check but are scared to remain out of jobs. I am assuming that a majority of these people, if called back and not necessarily concerned about CV, are not going to pass up the chance to go back to a full time job in exchange for a bit more money and job insecurity.
I think the job market is more permanently crippled than a lot of people think. The government package was used up very quickly and was obviously not enough to prevent more than a million small businesses from closing. Those jobs are not coming back anytime soon. Also, corporations are much slower in responding with layoffs. Now that the dust is starting to settle, rest assured there will be mass layoffs. There is just too much fat to cut with the drop in demand globally. COVID is not a tiny blip and 2020 is already a lost year. It will be interesting to see how much worse it gets or how quickly this all improves.
