The Believe in the Runs Podcast reaching a new low. They spent a half an hour claiming that neither they or their new BFF Truett Hanes, are narcissists, spent another half an hour trashing Sage Canaday as a narcissist because he implied (correctly in my opinion) that Truett Hanes is using performance enhancing drugs, then said it didn't matter if Truett used PEDs because you still have to put in the work to run that time and it didn't matter if he took PEDs anyway because it doesn't harm others (should be take this as an admission that Thomas uses roids to run 3:50 in the marathon?), then claimed that they knew that Truett wasn't on PEDs because he had lost a bunch of weight recently! Ever heard of the PED called Ozempic guys? Anyway, definitely worth a listen! And then after that they talked about people who paid $60 to join their Strava group for 20 minutes. Just an epic, epic episode of The Drop.
Wow did they really? I don't even know these people and I don't listen to podcasts, but can someone summarize what I'm being "trashed" about exactly?
That I wrote on Instagram Threads and tweeted out that: "most people don't realize how big of a chasm 2:29 to sub 2:16:00 is?!"
Or that I commented on Truett's IG once (months ago) about saying how it's misleading to list your "marathon time PR" without disclosing that the course was a massive net downhill drop of thousands and thousands of feet?!
Finally (for the record) I never said anything directly about Truett being on PEDs (or not). I wouldn't say that about anyone without knowing 100%. I probably said something down the lines that "a lot of 'hybrid athlete types' and influencer-runners might not be clean and use PEDs" though. I would never directly accuse anyone without solid evidence because I don't know anything for sure....
Do I have grounds for a defamation case here though?
They start talking about it around 33 minutes in. I agree with you Sage and these people are idiots. I think they are too dumb to realize that cutting minutes off your time gets harder the faster you are. 2:30 is not even in the same world as 2:20 and 2:20 is not in the same world as sub 2:16. I'm surprised that these people are runners, obviously not fast ones.

What I'm amazed at is how plugged in Truett and his disciples (meat-riders might be a more appropriate term) are to the slightest bit of criticism. Everett Smulders has 17k followers on his coaching IG but Truett was there to thank Coach Fudd for his nod of approval. He's also receiving pretty widespread support outside of a few randoms commenting syringes (and this thread of course) yet there's still a major attitude that he's gonna stick it to the haters! Still it's the BPN crowd plus a few fringe running figures backing Truett while the "haters" consist of Sage, Sean Brosnan, and the hordes of Letsrun posters... what an odd bunch we are!
The winner of that same parkrun got DQ'd because he got his mate to act as lead out bike, while filming him, it's on YT. He missed the course record by a few seconds, which is a shame as I would have preferred to see him beat it and then not get the credit. The RD explicitly told them he couldn't have a lead out bike before the start.
Yes the winner is an entitled, arrogant bellend who put the safety of other runners at risk.
@ianbarnett5051 Ouch. That's a bit harsh. I only took up this running lark a year ago (and I'm 59). I thought 4:30 was not too bad at this stage! (and I got fastest in my age category at Demesnes Parkrun on Sat). (19th out of...

I wouldn’t take it too personally Sage. I think you touched a nerve with Meg because last year she declared her goal to OTQ off a previous marathon PR of 2:45. She wants to believe if Truett can do it so can she.

Pretty much. Though Meg is 38, if she had been training at this level 8 years ago, she would've hit 2:45 and qualified then. Though if she buys the PEDs from Truett's dealer, then maybe she'd have a chance. I really, really hope USATF exercises its right to test Truett out of competition. They really ought to do that.
Can't help but be slightly impressed with MARM's progress this past year, despite his 'training'. Down to mid 17s in the 5k and 1.20 in the half aged 50 whilst he barely trains during the week most the year, primarily *just* twenty odd races and thirty odd parkruns on the weekends or something like that. I guess it shows just doing some quality consistently week in, week out and not getting injured is probably a key driver of progress in most non elite hobby joggers.

MARM’s review of Ronan Keating was better than any shoetuber review.
She did not have super shoes 8 years ago. She needs them to run 2:45.
512 women qualified for the Atlanta Trials because, in large part, of the widespread availability of the first generation Vaporfly. I'm sure Meg had a pair of those back then. But I don't think she ran as much in the late 2010s as she does today.

The Meghans need to get rid of Thomas, he brings nothing useful to that show.

I used to like fuel for the sole, but they've completely sold out. She just pimps runway or whatever the sponsor du jour is. Tough to trust anything she says anymore.
Oh I’ve seen him, he’s a tried hard for the social media career, it gives me second hand embarrassment. I’d take a normal job and keep my dignity thanks.

Imagine being in your 40s/50s, setting up 2 cameras and a drone in a park then later in the video, a selfie stick + drone while telling everyone you’re neurodivergent for the 7millionth time - Fordy Runs
RTJ did a 65:09 training HM (Tokyo New Year HM), which, while promising if he really did it at true Marathon effort (as he've mentioned on his Strava Activity), hopefully does not wreck his back he clearly felt messed up a few days ago.
Also with the double today with 12K in the afternoon

Smashing tempos, long run workouts, gym three times a week, run in the morning, gym before home then 5 miles in the evening, lactate threshold work, loads of it, goal pace 16 mile runs. Changing everything, all for the dream, Olympic Q ...oh no hold on ...all for the dream ,a 3"20 marathon.
Joking aside, an hour a day really easy 4 days a week, One tempo , one medium long and one long run consistently will get nearly everyone that time.
