I quite liked it. I did notice the PB was from 2024 so i did wonder why he posted it now. See he is promoting some training plans. But I find his stuff is filmed pretty well and he doesn't post too often and its an easy enough watch.
I watched the video as I've never watched any of his content. It seemed harmless enough although a little self indulgent.
I'm not really clear on what Jog On is, or is supposed to be though? It seems like everyone on YT is flogging some sort of club that will sell you a generic training plan, community and some overpriced merch.
I don't understand who is joining these things or who they are aimed at, but their prevalence suggests people are buying it!
Given we have had a handful of these self styled documentaries. I'm curious to know what LR considers a sensible benchmark for being able to make a documentary about yourself? Of course there is an argument its not actually about the times, but how interesting the story is. To be honest I suspect even if you are edging into properly elite territory (I guess true elites wouldn't be making their own documentaries) its still going to come across as a little self indulgent.
Has anyone checked out the Ollie Drieu channel? He spent a while trying to do a sub20 5k. I quite like this channel, it comes across as quite genuine and relatable for someone that is just starting out and working out how to do all of this stuff. It makes a nice change from the usual Youtubers being mostly self styled gurus.

I think a documentary feels pretty redundant if you are already regularly releasing videos on youtube from your life, honestly. The exeption is if its a long form vlog covering a specific event or period where you were not actively vlogging, in my opinion. Honestly I would watch a non curated documentary showing how SJDs life really was at peak insanity. I think the key is that it has to show something else, and it cant be curated in the way the vlogs are.

maybe I just don't get him. Hit patter is awful the tension he tries to create with the voice over and the constant trying to shoehorn in his 'jog t-shirts/vests/whatever'. give me peace. Shilling of the Floberg standard!

I went to his website for this very reason - still no idea what it is other than a platform to sell merch and off the shelf training plans. Maybe he's a fordyruns offshoot.

He's a good lad. Just learning about running and trying to get PBs. Not trying to sell anything or something across as an expert.
He reminds me of Andy Maguire. Potentially less gormless

Jog on training plans are written by (as far as I can see) an unspecified GB athlete...my money is on Philly

I've heard FOD is directing and producing a day in the life of sirpoc, in light of all these docs. You follow him to the building site, then see him shuffle off for a run and heading down a British pub after.
The scary thing is, it'll be the most watchable of all this total sh*t from these guys lately. I find it very hard to relate to a lot of these tosspots.

Where they talk about the latest Chinese shoe they’ve bought and love. With their mate WelshRunner.
What’s happened to their Ozzie mate Jimmy? Seems to have gone quiet on the YouTube front. Didn’t mind his channel.

Its probably Louise Small, she is in half of his videos. Im not sure why people are criticising him, he’s always come across as likeable chap who puts a bit of effort into telling a story in his videos.
P.S, Hugo Fry is definitely not doping, he’s following the teachings of his former coach. The one and only Nick Bester. He was always going to succeed.
Jimmy posted recently in a Strava description that he's ready for a comeback and that videos will be coming soon. It looks like he tried to jump back into the subT in late December and re-aggravated the injury. He has been doing some decent strength training though.
I can't imagine the 2:30 plan is still on the table. He did say he wants to develop a good squat/bench/deadlift this year. Maybe he is going to reboot as a "hybrid athlete"?

Ah you're probably right...I see she's on his marathon course webinars. I assumed Philly as she's also in one of his videos, or the other way around.
Re: Hugo Fry I don't think he's cheating, if you've got some talent and running 100+ miles a week you can absolutely make that progression when clean. Running back-to-back marathons with second one 10 mins slower than his first is also no red flag imo. He is a serial offender of posting times for ultras which only include moving time...posted a 100 miler at 13.30ish when in reality it took him 16 hours!
Yeah I think Hugo obviously has some mild form of mental retardation and has just focused on running like a ginger Rain Man type figure. He runs a lot and has improved as a result
I find that its the guys jumping on the bandwagon that are always the worst culprits. You simply cant make up the gap of 5/10/15 years training vs people who have run their entire life have; they just cant deal with it and just decide that they'll cheat their way instead.
Age group triathlon is absolutely full of it and has been for years, I have a feeling that a large number of the sub elite running community will be on it as well now, with the exposure that they're able to get by running even just a sub 2:20 marathon, which when you are juiced to the gills and training full time isn't really much of an achievement.
This is the kind of thing that would really depress me if I was still a mediocre runner trying to run my best. I felt I worked pretty hard to get my 5k time under 17 and was pretty happy with that but if all I saw on social media were these mongoloids running that pace for a marathon while also doing thousands of pull-ups or whatever, I'd feel like nothing by comparison. I guess the same way these tools have warped young men's perception of what physique should look like, they're determined to also warp the idea of a normal running time. They're making their way through all areas of fitness like a black miasma of death!
I also want to give another special mention to Truett Hanes because on another thread someone posted that he was a pretty similarly mediocre runner to me when he was in high school, somewhere in that 17-18 minute 5k range. In some post or something he said he "never tried" in high school but I think that's really the type of runner he is. If you strip away the roids and the incentive to train for a living, he's just some mediocre runner. So instead of getting a real job and running a few times a week to keep the 5k time under 20, he's chasing an OTQ in jeans for a living. I'd say I'm jealous from the seat in my office chair but knowing how precariously he is perched up there with so many eyes on him, I can't say I am.
Right on cue, first episode of Olympic Trials or Die Tryin' has just dropped from the mongoloid himself.
I'm really looking forward to seeing him fail at this. This dude is such a meathead but I don't think there's any way that he genuinely has no idea how big the difference is between 2:29 and 2:15:xx. He's experienced enough at running at this point that he has to know. Right? It's just for content, surely.
Or maybe he really is that stupid. Perhaps he really is like Floberg before the plateau at 2:32, thinking the gains will just continue forever.
