Potentially Suspicious Runner To Run 836 Miles in 9 Days for "Charity"

His youtube videos have kept me both entertained and in a permanent state of cringing. The guy just can't run and it's hilarious!

I actually thought it was quite difficult to generate corporate sponsorship for running; even if you're quite good at it... Turns out, even if your running form looks like a geriatric and you can't string two articulate sentences together, it's still okay if you know the right people. How has all this happened??!!

Easy, you extort sponsors saying "it's for charity" and you will get all the sponsorship you need even if the charity spends money on luxury Everest and South Pole expeditions.

and to think most Letsrunners aren't interested in ultra running. The past few days have been comedy gold.

I get that it may be difficult to tell the charity to suck eggs but Neil said that he ended involvement with Dave Reading after the London Marathon 2016 but now I find Neil is in multiple promotional videos at his shop for Dave many months after the fact. Why did Neil omit these very important facts?And why would Neil still be sending words of encouragement to Dave on Facebook just days before this thread began?And above all, I do not like Neil's "it's for charity" attitude to excuse Dave Reading even after he posted in this thread.

1. When he literally, and I mean literally, turns up on your doorstep with a news camera crew what do you do? He wasn't promoting Dave, but he could not tell him to f off.

2. He wanted him to do the run, and raise a load of money, he thought Dave had no chance at all of getting a world record, but he still wanted him to manage to complete and raise a load of money. I genuinely believe he didn't know exactly how unprepared Dave was to even be able to complete.

3. The non record run was for charity. I think he wanted that to work out at that time for the charity's sake. I can't say with certainty, but I don't think he thinks that now.

So, no I don't think he trained Dave beyond London, I think Dave tried to portray it like that because he could borrow Neil's credibility. Neil is perhaps too nice a guy.

Kinda over? Hope not. No one in the uk really knows he is a scammer. In our national press today that he's a world class athlete that was only prevented from claiming the world record because of a tragic emergency re the driver.

Someone set up that website and I don't see either of those two being computer programmers, and they got it changed pretty damn fast.

But then if they didn't know that the likes of Rob or Vaz got rumbled for faking runs, maybe they just thought faking the whole thing with that tracker would be easy.

They don't need to have programming skills. Their website is just a few static pages. Anybody can create that by copying a template. If you do a do a whois lookup on their website, you will see it is registered to Cimpress, a company that does this type of website hosting and templates.

Agree, and after watching this it makes me wonder if the photographer/video fella is the master manipulator behind it, he seems to be everywhere and all over this scam.

One things for sure, considering how this was set up so professionally and slick, Dave and Terrie are just too thick.

It would be nice to hear the true story on this whole debacle. I highly doubt that we ever will. They just vanished and this will be the last we ever hear from Dave Reading is my take.

It is a joke. The 100k record is only slightly under 6 minutes per mile for 62 miles. Any of us here could do that easily. That's just jogging ten 37 minute 10ks in a row.
