Wrong....reparations were paid to some of the slave owners in America.
Reparations were paid to the French by the former slaves of Haiti.
Reparations were paid to the British slave owners, which Great Britain just finished paying for in 2015.
1. Black soldiers fought and died for the Union Army as well...in segregated units led by white commanders. They were actual pivotal in turning the war around for the Union. Plenty of racist white folks fought to keep black people slaves...ie the confederate
2. The war on poverty wasn't limited at all for black people, it was for all people and blacks were not on the receiving end of most of it.
3. Affirmative Action. We have had it for 350 years. It was affirmative action for white males in every field, as they were given preferential treatment over people of color and women. It wasn't until the mid 1960's that everyone could even vote.
Dude....you haven't even started paying at all. Right now and I mean right now, the U.S. Government is trying to figure out how to compensate the thousands of black farmers and their decedents for all the land the the U.S. government, state governments and local governments stole from African-Americans. Always a fool talking crap and lying on black people.
When the United Kingdom abolished slavery, the government compensated slave owners for the value lost from freeing enslaved people. It is true the Bank of England only recently paid off these debts in 2015. Didn't give a slave a single pence. Britain stood out among European states in its willingness to appease slave owners.
Stop saying "woke", first of all. It announces you as an idiotic culture warrior.
It’s hilarious that you’re ok with ‘culture warrior,’ but ‘woke’ is not ok.
Both side have "culture warriors" and there is cross-ideological agreement on what it refers to, for the time being.
Only the right uses the term "Woke" anymore, and they don't use to illuminate or explain anything. It has no agree upon referent, and is getting more vague by the day. First it was just about "PC" linguistic orthodoxies. Now it's about anything left of what Ron Desantis likes.
Some on the left threw around "fascist" a little too loosely for a while there too, but now we have the real deal stepping out of the shadows and into the mainstream US right.

Just as racist now as then. Only now white people are scared because they now shortly they will be the minority.
LOL.
Maybe the United States will then become like Zimbabwe.
Things worked out so well there!
Zimbabwe became a country in 1965. After whites colonized and formed the borders. So why were white people there if it was terrible and full of black people?
The British had its knee on their neck for centuries.

My god, people are so emotional. You can make the point that the skills learned during slavery helped freed slaves post-prohibition, without saying that "slavery was good." Not everything is black and white (no pun intended).

A very slippery and disingenuous reply. “The left” is pointedly clear about what kind of country and society it envisions, and that’s the problem for the right. They think a more egalitarian and personally free USA represents some kind of apocalypse. They know what they hate but can’t propose any kind of sustainable, liveable alternative for the majority of actually existing Americans. This is why they prefer endless, angry culture ways. It’s a purely minoritarian discourse, and it will fail— or fail the country if it ever gets anywhere politically.
It's disingenuous for the left to pretend that the US is some racist hell hole the way they do.
The utopian dream they think the US is failing to live up to doesn't exist anywhere on the planet.
If you want to experience actual racism travel abroad for awhile.

"...in conclusion, The Disney Corporation's legal victories in the mid 2020s were beneficial to Floridians. First, they established that corporations were far more powerful than term limited politicians. Then Governor DeSantis learned a valuable lesson about humility and what true power looks like. While the costs of the trials hampered the state's ability to fund essential services for a decade afterwards, Floridians were forced to become more resourceful - using 30-year-old textbooks, learning to drive more carefully on deteriorating roads, learning new routes after bridges collapsed, abandoning ruined towns after hurricanes and living in makeshift shelters, etc. One could argue that this made Florida citizens more independent and reconnected them with skills that had long disappeared."

Cute. Not really analogous at all to any of the points you're arguing against, though. Also, all the "benefits" you listed (in bold) were not really beneficial at all. I think a slave buying their freedom after learning skills which allowed them to make money was of relative benefit to them at the time. Would you not agree that having freedom would be beneficial compared to being a slave?
All I'm saying is having ancestors that were slaves isn't some uniquely black American experience. It is a global experience almost everyone lives. None of it was good, all of it was appalling, but history is appealing. I simply choose to not let any of it impact my present. I suggest others stop as well but if anyone wants to live their life as a victim feel free.
This is so utterly false. The Atlantic Slave Trade was so evil it is only surpassed in it's monstrosity by the Holocaust.
And you're just casually brushing it off as if it's something all peoples have experienced.
I got news for you when the Duke who controlled the land you worked as a slave wanted to rape your daughter there was nothing the serf could do but say be gentle with her...

So you equate serfdom with the Holocaust. Historical illiteracy is a thing.

Ironic you're calling historical illiteracy when there was no contract or debt obligation for it to be perversely referred to as 'serfdom'. 400 years of slavery Africans being enslaved in the Americas, and by relation colonialism, as 'serfdom' ?
In the period from 1885 to 1908, many atrocities were perpetrated in the Congo Free State (today the Democratic Republic of the Congo) which, at the time, was a state under the absolute rule of King Leopold II of the Belgians...

I didn't call colonialism "serfdom". It isn't. Serfdom applied chiefly to European cultures in the Middle Ages. As dire as it sometimes was, it wasn't slavery - and nor was colonialism. But none of that equates to the Holocaust - the industrial genocide of an entire race in their millions that occurred in the mid-twentieth century.

Wow.
A handful of years of suffering is worse than several centuries of slavery and genocide.
We know this because the victims of the Holocaust are still at the bottom of the barrel economically while those other victims have recovered.
Wait. It's just the opposite? Must be the innate superiority of the Holocaust victims over those black and brown peoples
