It baffles me how so many running Youtubers still peddles percentage of max HR for HR zones instead of heart rate reserve or percentage of lactate threshold.

Every youtuber floods the web with these lazy reviews, rarely offering anything more than oneanother, no quality insights, and frequently run on not enough mileage (in order to get the review out quicker to monopolise the market share of clicks).
Cycling youtube is seeing a similar thing. One of the youtubers who doesn't do this (very sparing reviews and actually has qualifications/knowledge to talk in depth about bikes, engineering) went absolutely scorched earth recently about the tidal wave of shills that cycling - and by extentsion other niche, consumerism driven hobbies - are seeing.
Maybe someone in the running space needs to do this, although to be quite honest I can't think who might have the reach, knowledge and freedom from relying on youtube income to actually take quite a lot of youtubers to task.
Seth Demoor comes up with loads of crazy analysis (like his famously ill-executed use of the durometer) but consistently did these off of only 1 run. Pathetic.
I think you are incorrect on this point. My recollection is Seth used to wait 100 miles for full reviews (until moving down to 50 after he became inundated with shoes). If he did not like a shoe after one or two runs, he would "relegate" it and not take it to 100 miles.

Closest of note that we've come is Kevin Beck and along with having clearly different agendas behind who he targets and why (generally running media writers, as he used to be one himself), he also appears to have stopped writing anyway. But he's one of the only ones I can recall that's gone after running influencers to any depth.
Interesting…. Not really sure where to start to fair play for trawling back through my videos to provide that analysis.
shoe reviews - not everyone’s cup of tea… that’s absolutely fine, you can’t please everyone! As a fan of shoes myself, I enjoy shoe content, I watch shoe content myself and I enjoy the advancements in technology that comes within that realm. Pegasus 41? Possibly the most boring shoe I’ve tried in a long time, far better options out there from other brands, but that’s personal opinion.
reading out other people’s training - had a lot of positive feedback on these, a lot of people don’t have time to go back and sift through someone’s training but “want to know how they did it”, so I took that role to condense it down and showcase it. I had a nice message from Clayton’s videographer to say thanks for the video and kind words, not to mention a public comment on the video.
During marathon training, I keep a training vlog, a long run vlog and then 2 other vlogs a week, which might be shoes, might be training, might be tips etc…. I don’t pidgeon hole myself into one area, that’s a personal choice and I hope to provide a few different audiences at least one video a week they appreciate.
I think the honest reality is… if you really don’t like my content, why do you watch it? Always up for constructive comments, as I’ve mentioned before… but just don’t watch the videos if you really can’t stand them.
As for Seth… he had 2 kids when he started his journey, he now has 6 or 7? I think he became a little time crunched when it came to YouTube

that may have been the case years ago, but you've definitely missed a couple seasons of the SJD show since then...

Really doesn't seem like you're considering your existing subscribers.
If it's just a random who comes across your videos and doesnt like them then of course they can move on, but if your existing subscribers aren't liking the direction of your channel, and your response (in a very Matt Fox fashion) is to say 'if you dont like it then leave', then you'll find yourself with dwindling numbers, or like Seth who has 172,000 subscribers but averages 3% viewership on videos.
They don't even have to watch it to be put off, just the fact that this next video release is yet another shoe comparison is a disappointment. Subscribers are mostly watching for the running, and today there is no running to watch because it's another shoe video that more realistically services non-subscribers googling the shoes.
Credit to Ben Parkes, one of the few good ideas he ever had was to create a second channel for this lesser material.
I do my best to cater for as many audiences as possible. As I mentioned… I’ll produce a variety of content per week. The people who’ve subscribed may of subscribed via a shoe video, a training video, a “top tips” video… so I try to please them all.
To fix the issue you mention… I’d need to fully lock into an area and just target videos around that area so that those who subscribe follow the journey each video, rather than just one a week, and I personally enjoy the variety I currently have over locking into one area. I have a few different types of subscribers to consider here…
All of the above is constructive… but with regards to the Matt Fox comment, did my comment really come across that way? I’ve never understood the notion of watching a channel that I dislike. If I watch a video I don’t like, I click off it and move on, I don’t go back for more. There are plenty of channels in the running space I don’t like watching… I don’t then find myself going back to them… that’s merely what I was referring too.
Rather than going back and forth… from reading your comments… you’re saying:
1) training / racing videos are fine, shoes are not… or at least overdone.
2) stop reading the forums and spend more time brainstorming better content

Did you know that Nike Pegasus shoes are like the Toyota Corolla of running? I don't understand how you can buy these shoes and think you'll fly like with carbon-fiber shoes with premium midsoles. Pegasus is a classic, and it should stay that way. It doesn't need to follow the latest trends or surprise you — it’s a reliable workhorse that doesn't change much between models. If the Pegasus suddenly felt like the Endorphin Speed, it would drive away a large part of the customers who have been accustomed to buying this classic running shoe for over 20 years.
Personally I think most of this is feedback to you is trolling, you do a good job of mixing and matching your content compared to others, and original I guess mixing up the content which you do.
When I’m not interested in one of your videos I either skip completely or jump to a section I’m interested me.
Tom grosse review on is the score better if sent to the YouTube reviewer or brought was quite interesting possibly one of the complaints people have especially the pointless products that clearly the YouTuber is wanting a kick back from which the original thread called out.
Thank you, I appreciate that. The honest facts are that it’s ok not to be liked by everyone and not everyone will like what you do… so I just keep that in mind.
Tims video was fantastic and it did highlight the ratio of shoes sent vs shoes purchased… I thought that was a great video idea. I have the upmost respect for Tim, he’s a top bloke and loves a good spreadsheet. Even nicer in real life too
Who are the fastest Youtubers who aren't actual pros? Ben Is Running has to be up there I assume
Speaking of Ben is Running, it sounds like’s injured again, this time by something something back-related.
I feel for the lad, as he seems like a good bloke and only just returned to full form after a stress fracture. I’ve been in his shoes and know how unbelievably frustrating it is.
This thread (for talking about running YTers) has been surprisingly balanced compared to usual. I'm also in agreement of this post.
I'm on the whole a real fan of running YT content. In my opinion Sweat Elite is flag bearer, and absolutely love it.
I'm a huge fan of FOD runner and love his training and racing videos. I'm luke warm on shoe reviews, so I agree with what he's saying (i.e you have a choice to watch content that interests you, so it's odd people of watching multiple of times and hating it)
That being said I do think some critisism can be valid and not trolling. I think those saying Seth should pivot off a daily vlog to fewer vlogs with better quality was a very fair assertion.
