I live in New Mexico and we've only had 260 deaths, mostly old people with pre-existing conditions. Time to open up..... Let people decide for themselves what precautions to take.

Americans have had their fill of these autocratic, power hungry Democrat Governors trampling on our rights. There's going to be a backlash against the Dems in Nov.

Then why aren't you complaining about the dear leader who declared a national emergency and shut down because of COVID? By your logic, shouldn't he have set the right tone from the start and prevented the shut down? There is going to be a bigly backlash against WPOTUS.

Liberals hate big corporations but love big government.....You can fire a corporation, simply don't buy their product, but you can't rid yourself of big government, in fact they can throw you in jail....

Pharma companies are not generally interested in vaccines, and are not at the forefront of development.

Be very clear about what Trump is doing. He may be as ignorant about many things but he does have a conman's sense about what sells to a vulnerable segment of the population. Trump is determined to associate the economic downfall to the democrats. If you are worried or hurting about loss of business or loss of job he wants you to associate that with the democrats. It doesn't even matter what you logically reason on some level he wants you to think, trump fighting for your jobs, democrats fighting against your jobs. He will never do anything to associate himself with social distancing or wearing masks or anything that his own medical people have recommended. (Even though in private he does those things) So even though he declared a national emergency , just like the previous poster indicated, he is not associated with those acts. He knows, responsible behavior doesn't win elections.

Texas is spiking now. Reopening has already been a disaster there.

We will reach 100,000 dead Americans soon.

Those are facts.

The lockdown was a mistake, the government should have focused on protecting the old and the vulnerable. As lockdowns cease, the virus had not spread - look at the numbers of new hospitalizations not "cases." We were told the lockdown was to keep hospitals from being overrun- they have not and we have flattened the curve. Time to reopen America.

I agree, but I do want to correct one thing you said.

There is little incentive for a big pharma company to invest in a cure for disease. It's usually a bad business model to invent a cure. That's because once you are cured you are no longer a customer.

Pharma companies invest in treatments. The most profitable drug is one that you have to take for the rest of your life.

If Tiny could have acted responsibly, he would win by a landslide. All he had to do was:

1) Lock it down.

2) Get the infections to a manageable level

3) Test and trace

That has worked in other nations. It would work here too if we had a competent president.

We would be back to normal well before November and Tiny would coast to re-election.

Instead, November will see over 200,000 dead Americans and economic destruction as bad as the Great Depression.

Trumpers are floating a trial balloon to explain why the US has had so many more deaths than other nations, per capita.

The WH is saying that blacks and hispanics have a lot of unhealthiness - obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc and that explains much of the higher death toll.

One the one hand, this is true. Esp in NYC where wealth is so divided on racial lines.

On the other hand, trumpers know very well that their entire political party is white and the Ds and significantly black and brown. This is a dog whistle to Rs - dirty cities, immigrants, hatred of non-whites. More leadership into the crapper by the Trumpers. Divide and conquer, not unite and work together.

Tricky for people who think telling the truth is important. Should the WH tell these truths? or suppress them in the name of national unity? Tough one.

Took a step backwards on Sunday. The roughly week-long improvement in moving averages (daily deaths) ended. In both the US and the world the 7 day moving averages rose(got worse) on Sunday. Let's hope it's a one-day blip and not a look into a post-lockdown world.

The US was just 24% of world deaths on 5/17. Usually it is around 32%.

Sunday data are questionable so not much thought should be put in here.
