I'm starting to think that the way this goes is a long plateau.

A bell curve might be too much to ask for at this point.

Social distancing flattened the curve, as promised. But now what? We go on with no economy until a vaccine or all the vulnerable people die?

We're most likely just going to go on with a thousand people per day dying...for a long time.

But it has merit... I don't think we can depend on a constructive public sentiment in times of crisis - people are very divided and unfortunately on very significant issues. I think people are way less divided than you realize.

However, I'm certain we're told we're extremely divided everyday because we're obsessed with news entertainment

"Investigation" is kind of a strong word for something that happened 27 years ago. Her story, the Larry King call, the people collaborating her story and possibly the University of Deleware records are about it.

You think 39% of the world's deaths on 4% of the population is solid performance?

in late feb if you were told the US would be 39% of the worlds' deaths in a global pandemic...you would not raise an eyebrow? You wouldn't have said 'nah with our trillion dollar health care system that won't happen?'

the nation just shut itself down...that's an awesome display of national unity. I'm actually shocked it went this well.

Most world and state leaders are getting a big bump in approval with their response to this major crisis.

Trump had a slight bump and then went back down.

My guess is the curve stays flat... the country has to reopen, even if slowly, but that will feed new cases throughout the summer and then we have to deal with the fall and winter. This will be a multi-year ordeal.

Yep, CV was a layup for trump and he simply didn't move. It would have been hard for him to produce a worse response - he simply didn't care. He could have seen his approval rating pop to +70% had he come out early and articulated a non-partisan plan and for once showed some humility. But this is what the country gets for electing a psycho and moron.

That sounds nice, but I don't think it reflects reality outside of small communities. People are home because there is nowhere to go. Half probably think this is all overkill and the other is terrified that the gov't hasn't done enough. Look at trump's republican approval rating, it tells you a lot. We were divided before and much more now with WPOTUS.

I really hope this whole thing (along with the hopeful end of Trump's presidency) will finally bring the death knell of edgy cynicism, doubt, and distrust.

Pre-Trump, I (as a conservative) also disliked the smarty-pants habit of those on the left to, arguably, over-criticize the US. But as monumentally bad as Trump is (in SO many ways), I'm significantly more receptive (or at least tolerant of) harsh critiques of the US on issues that involve federal actions/inaction. He's just that bad.
