And because we are opening up too soon, there is a likelihood that we will eventually pass all modern nations.

I don't have any good explanation for it, and I don't claim to be anything other than someone who has followed the numbers for a couple months now, but it seems like every phase of the pandemic is taking longer than I expected. Italy went into lockdown and didn't see a reduction in the number of daily new cases for a month. The US supposedly hit peak death rate in mid April and yet there are still ~2k deaths per day. At this current rate I would expect another surge parts of the US by Memorial Day.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. We just aren't doing what we need to do to stop the spread.

It takes the kind of control and organization that China has. We have to figure out how to achieve China's results without an authoritarian government. So far we are failing miserably.

Watched the segment with Mika grilling Biden on MSNBC. I don't know if this incident happened, but Tara and those looking to take advantage of the potential bad press on Joe have really fumbled badly. There are already way too much decay, inconsistencies and conflicting information. Meanwhile, Joe remains cool headed and stands by his same defense without calling into question Tara's story. If it was Trump he would have tried to destroy her on and outside of twitter.

This comes down to investigation. Her allegations have clearly lacked merit, coherence, and substance and it's quite clear no jury could conclude Biden is guilty. This thing is pretty much dead IMO. If Tara is serious about this, she needs to come out and starting talking next to her lawyer and clearing the story and explaining what if anything has been kept hidden and preventing her from producing evidence.

we are 10th worst among major countries in deaths per million. That's pretty bad.

it's tricky of course because NJ NY CT are among the worst places in the world, while most of the country is not suffering much at all. .

and of course data from many large nations isn't meaningful.

But 39% of deaths when you are 4% of world population can't be good.
