I really have to applaud many in New York, especially the AG, for calling for his resignation. Usually, when Dems go bad other Dems adopt a bunker mentality just protecting their brethren. This was not the case in this instance. Way to go Dems!

On Wednesday, Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley said that the Afghan government fell faster than anyone expected.

“Intelligence clearly indicated multiple scenarios were possible: one of those was an outright Taliban takeover following a rapid collapse of the Afghan Security Forces and the government,” Milley told reporters at the Pentagon. "However, the timeframe of a rapid collapse, that was widely estimated and ranged from weeks, months, and even years following our departure. There was nothing that I or anybody else saw that indicated a collapse of this army and this government in 11 days.”

A senior intelligence official also said Wednesday that the Afghan government “unraveled even more quickly than we anticipated.”

As much as everyone (including myself) despises the incompetent, amoral Trump, I'm not sure that I buy into that narrative. I think that the truth is more about basic human nature and thus is perhaps even more disturbing.

People lie. All the time. People in power lie to provide cover for bad decisions and bad outcomes. That's just the way it is. And people not in power repeat the lies of those in power for their own selfish reasons.

Speaking truth to power is hard. For this reason it is also very rare. And by speaking truth to power I do not mean a bunch of nobodies on LRC blasting Trump from the safety (and irrelevance) of their keyboard. I am talking about those whose job (or more than just their job) depends on staying in the good graces of those in power who are spouting the lies.

There is no way that those on the ground did not know that the Afghan security forces were a farce. But that message got filtered out going up the chain of command by a snowballing sequence of lies, coverups, do-as-your-tolds, etc. Probably some at the top knew the truth. But most likely it was not openly talked about. And at the very top nobody stopped a strategy session to stand up and say, "Can we stop all this bullsh!t and deal with reality here?"

If everyone who wants out of Kabul gets on a plane and there's little to no loss of life, will we change the narrative and call it a successful retreat? I assume that was the strategy all along, it just had to be accelerated because the Afghan government fled and the army dissolved.

Not sure about why the fires are erupting in the Bolts, but I could see Fat Hurts turning away the battery delivery person knowing that his Bolt is likely to erupt with a new battery.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging owners of select Model Year 2017-2019 Chevrolet Bolt vehicles to park their cars outside and away from homes due to the risk of fire.

Vehicles should be parked outside regardless of whether the interim or final recall remedies have been completed.

My Chevy Bolt still has enough range for me to drive to the liquor store to drown my sorrows on buying this piece of crap (Chevy Bolt) in the first place. But sometimes it doesn't even make it home without the battery dying. Why did I buy this piece of sh&t???!!!
