Tell that to all the 100m, 100 Hurdles, 200m, 400m, 4x1, 4x4, Long Jump, Triple Jump athletes. I bet Eastern Washington, Sacramento State, Portland State, and Northern Arizona Coaches are not happy. You're smart enough to know that this is trash
Boise is a big dilemma rn. Pay is 50k less than former coach. why would they cut the pay after trying to rebuilt a toxic culture of disordered eating??????
Seems like the fire a coach to cover their arse and then low ball a new person to save money... Once again Boise athletes are NOT BEING TAKEN CARE OF!!!
I believe the posted salary is fully $65k less than the last coach’s ending salary. It’s also only open for two weeks, which often (but not always) suggests they have a strong candidate identified.
“Experience working with both men and women” is underlined in the job description, so Title IX concerns are prioritized. I do know admin sent out its exploratory feelers to the western coaches as soon as Ihmels was fired.
That’s starting no one who ultimately gets that job will get paid only that much. Just a posting. Salary has already been discussed. The big question is right after NCAA’s do they let the entire staff go? I heard yeas!
As a head coach would you hire an assistant that has 0 head coaching aspirations? Interviewed a candidate and they want to be the best in their event area and that’s it. I’m questioning if they have the capacity for growth and shys away from challenges. Maybe I’m overthinking and should have asked more follow ups, but it just took me by surprise since most coaches I know have head coach aspirations.
I disagree as a coach that’s been both a head coach and assistant coach. . When I been a head coach, I always wanted coaches that aspired for greatness. Whether it was in their event group or the desire to be a head coach, I felt as a head coach. It was my job to mentor and help people reach their goals.
YES! Head Coach isn't for everyone. A lot of it is management more than actual coaching. I love having really good coaches that don't want to be head coach but really want to develop athletes in their area of expertise. They also aren't gunning for your job and telling everyone you are doing it all wrong.

Who in the west would be a good candidate but not be at a program they would leave? Most good coaches in the west are already at good schools. Only name that comes to mind is Vanhoy and I don’t seem him leaving Cal Poly for a non-P4 job. Cornfield maybe, but don’t see him leaving NAU. Perhaps someone at Colorado State, Wyoming, or an assistant?

I’d actually respect that. Sounds like someone has perspective and values their work life balance & isnt fvcking retarded enough to pour everything into a profession that’s probably not going to exist in 5 years. Most head coaches I know are fvcking miserable, steadily grew into awful people as this profession took its toll on them, and are never willing to retire because they never did anything else with their lives…so nothing to move on to. No thanks. I’ve been both head and assistant, and if I’m ever stoooopid enough to accept a head job again, I’m hiring assistants who value their work life balance. Because happy people are still usually productive hard working people that athletes respect & don’t piss off your admins. Who f’ing cares if you spend more time in the office than anyone else or get 3rd instead of 2nd or win a popularity contest with teenagers. The people employing you are still laughing at you at the end of the day. Hope you all have a life outside of this…

And you're so happy that you check the letsrun MB "2024 College Track & Field Open Coaching Positions Discussion" thread this late at night.

Yeah a head coaching job isn’t for everyone. Especially when you don’t know the difference between bored and board. It take a little bit of intelligence you don’t have. You can always try volunteering your time to get your foot in the door.

Wow! So bitter. So why are you on this board still? You hear so much bad and you would be "stoooopid enough" to accept another job. Move on dude! Go be negative somewhere else. This is a place to discuss openings not spready your hate.

I'm sure......................
Never said I was “happy.” But I guarantee you I’m “happier” than the vast majority of head coaches. And I posted that late at night because I have a life I was out enjoying outside this fruity little world.
Hell, while I’m at it, coaches, if you’re making less than $150k as a head coach, or you’re making less than $75k as an assistant & more than a decade into your career, please make sure you’re not working more than 40 hour weeks. Trust me, this sh!t isn’t worth investing more time in than that for such low pay by your mid 30’s. And everyone here better have a back up plan when our profession dramatically changes over the next 5 years.
But yeah, if you’re a head coach you probably don’t have the option to work less and do stuff outside this…hence all the miserable head coaches with no lives.
