My ucla source says P5 budgets and resources are way deeper than those at mid-majors. At ucla there was no limit ever on recruiting expenses, for example. You could fly anybody in, from anywhere in the world, and put them up in amazing hotels. HS athletes were very eager to take an walk-on admit to ucla over a scholarship to a mid major. (Ucla got into a little trouble with those valuable admits…)
Mid majors, he said, can choose to stack up their 18 scholarships for women in one event area. So NAU can go all in for xc and distance, but not have depth in the other track event areas. This strategy can potentially score points at nationals against P5s.
Yes, coaches at mid majors work hard with less, and many are better coaches than those at P5 schools.

I don't know UCLA's track & field budget, I guess I can search the EADA Report to get an idea. However we all know their recruiting budget isn't unlimited. They aren't flying in 50 kids from Europe, Africa and Australia into LA for recruiting visits every year.
Yes, there are great outstanding coaches at mid majors, there are also plenty of terrible coaches at mid majors and a lot of turnover due to low pay. Yes there are some lazy coaches in P5 who get by on having very talented kids coming through the door and they don't get them injured. Also plenty of great coaches in P5 who worked their way up from low DI or lower to P5 jobs.

Keith Vromen has been the head coach in waiting for like ten years. It would be unimaginable that he wouldn't get this.
What happened at Wayland Baptist? Whitlock was there for quite a while.
Looks there is an opening for the jumps position at Northern Colorado. The Jumps coach is no longer on web site . He did a really good job there.
He left part-way through the year for a different gig. Yes, did a great job. Problem is that UNC doesn't support T&F enough to be competitive in the Big Sky; not even close. Not enough coaches; not enough scholarships. I feel bad for the coaches there (and other places where admin doesn't support T&F).
rumor has it he took a gig at Alma Mater
Is really Oregon making a coaching change? Robert’s contract was up this year and hasn’t been renewed yet. That may or may not mean he’s out after the ncaa.
Oregon will be renewing Robert. It will be announced after ncaa.
The word from Rudy Chapa last week is Johnson is done. Search has been underway for weeks. The Safe Sport investigation runs deep and UO cutting ties to lessen the blow.
You have to be careful with today's distance runners
If Johnson is done, then who are they talking with to take over?
Pure speculation on potential replacements for Johnson, not in any particular order.
Ben Thomas, Andy and Maurica Powell, Edrick Floreal, Mike Smith, Diljeet Taylor, Lonnie Green.
No matter what you guys think the Notre Dame distance guy is heading to Tennessee. And the Oregon head guy is in serious trouble, his contract is expiring, and the university is going to make him the scapegoat for everything. When administrators approve things and then it goes bad they will always blame the coach, not take responsibility.
Johnson is gone. He apparently reached out to Auburn. Not sure they bite on that with so many bad rumblings. Heard new Duck coach is likely Lonnie Greene. Auburn pursued Greene after losing out to Tennessee for Ross. Many Duck alums advocating with Uncle Phil for the Powells to return.

Powells return, which Maurica is as bad as Robert Johnson with the same issues so maybe awful idea, and you lose Ben Thomas….Oregon should make moves to keep Ben Thomas at Oregon.

Lonnie Greene just signed an extension to 2027 at Kentucky
