let's also remember that FDR's programs were struck down by the courts as unconsitutional, or just downright tyrannical, such as attempting to pack the supreme court. And in the end nothing really worked - 1937 was as bad as 1932.
So our lesson from FDR is try to break all the rules, jam through unconstitutional things, force the federal government into everyone's life, not confront Southern racism, not be prepared for Pearl Harbor...all forgiven because of a couple of successful programs.
Ok. FDR sounds a lot like Trump in many ways, to tell you the truth. Mixed as a president, in my book. Not a big fan overall.
(Great wealth to appalachia? uh huh.)
Attempting to pack the SC? You mean, like Trump?
FDR is not routinely described as an "unconstitutional" President, unlike the impeached incumbent you have likened him to. He is typically described by constitutional scholars as one of the greatest US Presidents, with Lincoln and Washington, chiefly because he successfully brought the US through its two greatest crises since the Civil War, of the Great Depression and the Second World War.
Trump on the other hand has been described by over 200 constitutional scholars around the country as "the worst President in US history".
You should stick to your numbers. History - nah.
I'm pretty good at presidential histories. I know how FDR is viewed. He's not one of my favorite presidents, that's all. He broke the rules, he lied a lot, he had to be stopped from further rule breaking by the Supreme Court, he didn't care about Southern racism much, he left pearl harbor unprotected, he didn't end the depression, he broke the norm of running only twice, he didn't prepare his VP to take over even when FDR was very sick in 1943 and 1944, he trusted Stalin way too much, dot dot dot
Yeah he did well in WW2 after a halting start. Took way too long to open the Western Front in Europe.
But he made manypeople feel the federal government cared about them.
In the end he was president for a long time in two key moments in US history. And both ended well. I'm just not impressed as much as most people by him.
